APGA Dismisses N3.5B Alleged Vote Buying, As Party Wins Assembly Poll

0

By Okey Maduforo Awka

The All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA in Anambra state has dismissed claims by opposing political parties in the area that it spent the sum of N3,5 billion on vote buying during the just concluded State Assembly election last Saturday.

This is coming as the party won 17 out of the 30 seats at the state Assembly and followed by the Labour Party that won 8 seats with the Young Progressives Party YPP and People’s Democratic Party PDP winning three and two seats respectively.

According to a release signed by the Press Secretary to Gov Charles Soludo, Mr Christian Oburime those allegations are not only baseless but unfounded adding that the general public should disregard them.

“The attention of the Government of Anambra State has been drawn to a false publication being peddled in some sections of the media bordering on the above headline”

“The satanic report alleging that Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo-led administration spent a whooping 3.5 billion naira to execute the State House of Assembly election is not only untrue but highly despicable and illogical”

“The allegation is further baseless against the background that it is coming at a time of acute shortage of cash due to the Federal Government Naira Redesign Policy which sadly exposes the devilish intentions of the writer(s)”

“Anambra people are advised to disregard the non-existent International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) who made the said allegations. The people behind this organization have been known to be serial blackmailers over the years who do not serve any useful purpose to the society.”

“Governor Soludo does not need to buy votes to win election. He is a democrat who enjoys the overwhelming support of the good people of Anambra State.”

“The bogus claims by the author(s) are figment of their imagination and should be disregarded by Ndi Anambra and the general public.” he said.

The youths from Udenu, Igbo Eze South, Nkanu East, Nkanu South, amongst other Council Areas of Enugu State have vowed to burn down virtually all the property of the Enugu state government should the alleged conspiracy of His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Edwin Offor Nwatarail, aimed at ringing the election said to be won by the Labour Party, LP during yesterday’s gubernatorial election see the light of the day.

The report filed by our correspondents who are monitoring the election in the Coal City State revealed that the youths have perfected the plan to storm INEC offices across the state to cause kiosks, which if not properly handled, may turn out to result in Nigeria’s political revolution.

Warning strongly on the negative consequences for any attempt to toil with the mandate the electorates has given to their choice of a person as their next governor, the youths under the auspices of Enugu State Election Youths Vanguard, ESEYV went further to accuse Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for having used the state resources to pay both the INEC Enugu State Resident Electoral Commissioner and his staff billions of Naira to thwart the results of the election.

“We are sounding it clear that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and his already bribed INCE boss in Enugu State should as a matter of urgency, release the governorship election results won by the candidate of Labour Party, otherwise, let Ugwuanyi be ready to leave anarchy as his legacy in Enugu state.

“We are worried that our outgoing governor who came into office in a refined democratic process will be holding results of these Local Government Areas despite Labour Party win. We are also aware that he (the Governor) has conspired with the election umpires to foment trouble in our dear state but we won’t be deterred to reclaim the mandate of the Enugu State people already given to the candidate of the Labour Party”. The youths threatened.

However, the spokesperson for the thousands of youths, drawn from the affected local government areas who gave his name as Jeremiah Utazi said they are giving INEC a few hours from the time of publishing this report to release the results or they should be ready to do the needful at the odd hours of the impending anarchy.

Efforts made to reach His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, any of his media aides nor the Spokesman of the INEC, Enugu State were not fruitful as at the time of hitting the press.

Assembly Poll Leaves Imo Electorates In Agony, Parties Calls For Total Cancellation

By Joshua Chibuzo Andrew, Owerri

Members of the opposition political parties in Imo State have called for the cancellation of the Imo State House Of Assembly elections held on Saturday.

According to the results officially declared by the independent National Electoral Commission were won by the 27 candidates of the All Progressives Congress.

The result is said to have left Imo electorates and political parties in “Agony”, including the PDP chieftain and former Deputy Speaker of house of representatives, Honourable Emeka Ihedioha, the PDP National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu lost their state constituency seat to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The opposition Parties while calling the process a sham, alleged that the APC collaborated with security agents and INEC to rig the elections.

In a statement issued by the Labour Party chairman in the state, Festus Onyekwulisi, claimed that his party won the elections but APC in connivance with other state and federal actors rewrote the results.

In a related development, the spokesperson for the PDP in the state, Collins Opurozor, revealed that the party’s agents were beaten and arrested collation centres.

The statement read; ”The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State alerts Nigerians that INEC officials posted to Aboh Mbaise LGA of the State for yesterday’s House of Assembly elections have been abducted by agents of Imo APC and taken to a location in Owerri, ostensibly Douglas House, where they are currently rewriting the results already won by PDP to favour the failed APC.

“From the results declared at the various polling units in Aboh Mbaise, transmitted to iREV Portal and sent in by our agents, PDP overwhelmingly won the House of Assembly seat in the area with over ninety percent of total votes cast.

“However, as final collation was being awaited at the Collation Center, armed thugs, security agents and Ebubeagu militiamen led by APC stalwarts stormed the venue at the middle of the night, attacked our Party agents and took away the INEC officials with election materials.

“This madness exactly how Senator Hope Uzodinma wants his Party to win Aboh Mbaise. It is also what he is presently doing in the other LGAs of the State.

“It is important to note that this travesty would have been averted if the INEC Electoral Officer in Aboh Mbaise had remained incorruptible and allowed the process to be freely concluded before dusk, since all the polling units results were ready earlier than 4pm. Instead, in order to act a wicked script handed down by the regime of Senator Hope Uzodinma, INEC officials willfully delayed the process till it came to this messy point.

“Imo PDP, therefore, warns that any attempt to upturn the Party’s victory in Aboh Mbaise will be vehemently resisted.

“Our Party calls on INEC to immediately announce the PDP candidate, Ezinwa Pincewill Ugochukwu Amuchie, winner of the Aboh Mbaise State Constituency election in line with the majority votes of the constituents.”

Meanwhile, former Deputy Speaker of Imo State House Of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Okey Onyekamma who is the candidate of the PDP for Mbaitoli State constituency seat have expressed dissatisfaction over the outcome of the election in Mbaitoli.

Onyekamma in a statement signed by his media assistant, Justice Chukwunatu Nwafor
Said that he will challenge the outcome of the election in the court.

Opinion moulders in the state have claimed that the outcome of the assembly elections in Imo, where the ruling APC won all twenty seven seats shows that the state is indirectly running one party system. Which according to them, may cause more harm than good to the position of democracy in the society.

Low turnout, vote-buying mar Nigeria’s governorship and state assembly elections

0

BY SULE TAHIR

The turnout of voters for the governorship and state assembly elections in some parts of the country has been drastically low.

There are also some reports of vote-buying despite economic hardship faced by Nigerians.

Contrary to what was observed in the February 25 presidential election, there was the timely arrival of INEC officials and poor turnout of voters in Delta, Cross River, Rivers, Edo, Bayelsa, Ondo and Akwa Ibom.

It was gathered that low enthusiasm among voters contributed to the high level of voter apathy.

And in other cases, concerns about political violence was observed as the reason for the low turnout.

Reports from Venue state has revealed that No fewer than three persons suspected to be political thugs have been killed in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to reports, the thugs invaded the polling units 026 and 004, Gboko South while electoral processes were ongoing and attempted to snatch ballot boxes and the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System, (BVAS).

According to an eye account, Moses Agure-Dam who confirmed the development said the thugs were gunned down by military officers.

He said, “The thugs invaded the polling units and disrupted the election. They were three in number, one snatched the BVAS while others snatched ballot boxes but they didn’t succeed. They were all shot dead instantly by the soldiers in the area”.

The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Anene couldn’t be reached for further comments.

POSN demands cancellation of Rivers, Lagos, Imo election results over alleged widespread irregularities

…call for fresh Governorship and State Assembly polls in affected areas

By Chuks Eke

The Peter Obi Support Network, POSN has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to cancel the results of the Governorship and State Assembly elections held on Saturday in Rivers, Lagos and Imo states over widespread irregularities.

The group in a statement issued yesterday lamented how the ruling parties in Rivers, Imo and Lagos states perpetrated mind-boggling electoral malpractices, voter intimidation and suppression of the will of the people in a desperate bid to win the elections at all costs.

POSN called for a repeat of the polls in the three affected states, warning that any attempt by INEC to uphold the tainted election results would mean foisting unpopular candidates on the people, which could lead to anarchy.

The statement signed by Great Imo Jonathan of POSN’s Director of Strategic Communications, reads: “Our attention has been drawn to the irregularities, malpractices and voter suppression that characterized the Governorship and House of Assembly elections in Rivers, Imo and Lagos states on Saturday.

“From the evidence available to us, it is obvious that the conduct of the elections in the aforementioned three states did not comply with the Electoral Act. It would pose immense danger to our democracy if the results of the elections are upheld by INEC.

“From available evidence and testimonies of independent observers, many voters perceived to be voting against ruling parties in the affected states were chased away from the polling units, while the snatching of ballot boxes at the strongholds of the opposition was the order of the day.

“As a country, the process of electing our leaders must be free and fair so that the political office holders can be answerable to the electorate.”

“We, therefore, demand the cancelling of the results and holding of fresh elections in Rivers, Lagos and Imo states so that INEC may not be seen as a perpetrator of evil and supporter of electoral illegality. Anything short of this could be an invitation to anarchy,” POSN said.

Electorates Revealed How Police Were Used To Aide Thuggery, Malpractice In Imo Election

Imolites and election observers have decried the illegitimate roles played by the men of Nigeria police in the just concluded state Assembly polls in Imo State.

Notwithstanding the rate of insecurity in the state, Imolites across the 27 Local Governments Areas came out in good numbers to elect new lawmakers who shall represent them in the state House Of Assembly.

However, vote buying, intimidation and violence have murdered the supposed Democratic electoral exercise held yesterday,18th March 2023.

Some observers who witnessed the election, as well as good number of electorates in the state have condemned the negative roles of the armed policemen attached to Imo State government officials who involved in thuggery and intimidating innocent voters in the state by the directive of APC members.

“Nigerian Police numbering over 20 and Ikeduru Cult gang numbering over 100 storm Chieze Ochasi boot, Boot 009 to carry all election materials. Heavy shooting took place. The Village youth resisted them but many were wounded and taken away by Nigerian Police. It was a fight for all. Many of my village youths missing. APC imported thugs and many of my village youths wounded and as I speak to you, many have been rushed to hospital.

“Nigerian Police, thank you. I have serious wound but was able to escape.
I hate Nigeria.
I hate APC
I Hate Charlvon

“One of my brothers was arrested but was released at the spot because he said he voted APC and the party agent confirmed and he was released. Ahhh, curse be all riggers of this election. Your entire generation is cursed.” He said.

A similar development which also took place in Okigwe, where the zonal chairman of the PDP, Chief Chidi Dike have also revealed how Chinasa Nwaneri, Robertson Ekwebelem, Major Emenike led thugs to invade Onuimo LGA Collation Centre, beat up Party agents, and carted away election materials and abducted INEC officials.
