ZURU, KEBBI STATE — Senator Garba Musa Maidoki, representing Kebbi South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has officially resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The high-profile resignation comes directly ahead of the party’s scheduled senatorial primary election, amidst intense internal party friction.
The Resignation Letter
In a formal memo dated May 14, 2026, and addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Rafin Zuru Ward in Kebbi State, Maidoki attributed his exit to a prolonged internal party crisis.
The lawmaker stated that the ongoing structural friction within the ruling party has created persistent issues that directly threaten his future political aspirations. He had previously defected to the APC from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in May 2025.
Shift to the NDC Third Force
Insiders indicate that Senator Maidoki is finalizing a move to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). The newly formed opposition party has rapidly captured national attention as a viable “Third Force” alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The lawmaker has reportedly pledged his political support to the emerging alignment between former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, who are widely expected to lead the NDC’s 2027 ticket.
Impact on Kebbi Politics
Maidoki currently serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Legislative Compliance. He originally secured his legislative seat in 2023 by defeating the APC’s incumbent, Bala Ibn Na’Allah.
His abrupt exit from the ruling party is expected to trigger a significant wave of grassroots realignments in Kebbi State as opposition blocks consolidate power.
