As Police Commences Manhunt

The Anambra Police Command has commenced manhunt of a school teacher who allegedly flogged a 12 Year Old pupil to death at a school in Adazi Ani in Anaocha local government area.
The manhunt is part of the Safe School program of the Inspector General of Police aimed at ensuring the safety of students and management of schools in Anambra state.
When reporters visited Adazi Ani Community, villagers said that they have not seen the teacher since after the incident adding that even the members of the local vigilante group have been on the trail of the fleeing teacher .
They also confirmed that the child in question appeared frail before the punishment indicating they the teacher ought not to have carried out capital punishment on the late 12 year old boy .
According to the statement by the Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga the program is being led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP ) in charge of Operations Harrison Oruro .
“The team will, amongst others, commence a manhunt for a teacher that allegedly flogged a 12-year-old student resulting in the victim’s death at a school, in Adazi-Ani, Anaocha Local Government Area of the State”
“On receipt of the report in the evening of 16th July 2026, Police Operatives attached to Neni Division responded promptly and rushed the victim to a Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor while receiving treatment”
“The body has been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy”
“Photographs of the deceased were taken, and preliminary observations revealed visible marks of violence on different parts of the victim’s body”
Ikenga further confirmed that the case is under active investigation, and all necessary steps are being taken to ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
“To this end, the Command has expressed deep concern over the tragic incident and assured the family of the deceased and members of the public that the Command will conduct a thorough, diligent, and transparent investigation”
“The Command further reiterates its commitment to the protection of school children through the Safe School Initiative and urges members of the public with useful information that could aid the arrest of the suspect to report to the nearest Police Station or contact the Command through its emergency line 07039194332” he said.
