ABUJA — Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has raised an alarm after detecting an unsolicited and suspicious credit transaction deposited into one of his private bank accounts held with a major commercial bank in Nigeria.
In a statement addressing the development, Atiku’s media team disclosed that the unverified funds were flagged during routine monitoring of his financial accounts. Concerns were raised that the mysterious deposit could be part of a calculated setup or financial inducement scheme designed to smear his public standing and trigger political controversy.
Rather than remaining passive, the former presidential candidate promptly notified the commercial bank involved to flag the transaction, freeze the unauthorized funds, and initiate a full forensic tracking of the origin of the transfer.
Additionally, formal petitions and alerts have been dispatched to relevant law enforcement and financial intelligence agencies—including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), and the Department of State Services (DSS)—to investigate the incident, identify the sender, and establish the intent behind the transaction.
Atiku reiterated his commitment to transparency and financial integrity, cautioning political actors and operatives against engaging in covert maneuvers or financial setup attempts aimed at undermining opposition leaders.
