BENIN CITY — Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a 22-year-old self-acclaimed spiritualist, Odigie Moses, over the alleged sextortion of an Indian woman to the tune of $1,100.
The suspect was apprehended by EFCC officers in Ekpoma, Edo State, following an investigation into fraudulent digital practices and blackmail.
According to a statement issued on August 7, 2026, by the EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the suspect misrepresented himself on Zelle—a digital platform—as possessing spiritual healing powers. He was subsequently contacted by the victim, who was seeking spiritual intervention for personal and life-threatening challenges.
During the process, the suspect deceived the victim into performing a naked “spiritual bath,” which he recorded live without her knowledge or consent. Moses subsequently used the explicit recording to blackmail the victim, threatening to publish the footage online unless she paid him off.
EFCC investigations revealed that the victim paid $1,100 to the suspect under duress to prevent the publication of her private imagery.
The anti-graft agency stated that Moses will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
