OSOGBO — The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has expressed strong outrage over the gruesome murder of its member, Sogo Oladiran Alex, who was targeted and killed in cold blood in Ilesa East Local Government Area.
In an official statement signed by the Head of the Media and Publicity Committee for the campaign council, Engr. Omowaiye Oluremi, the ruling party alleged that Alex—who recently defected from the Accord Party to the APC—was deliberately hunted down and slain by political thugs affiliated with the Accord Party.
The APC campaign council noted with grave concern that over 30 party supporters have been targeted or affected by recent political unrest in the state ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
“The deceased was reportedly targeted while identified as an APC member in Ilesa East LGA, raising serious concerns regarding the safety of political participants,” the statement read. “This incident represents a troubling pattern of violence that the campaign council firmly condemns.”
Reaffirming the commitment of the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), to a peaceful election, the campaign council urged law enforcement authorities to act decisively to prevent further political bloodshed.
“The Osun APC Campaign Council makes an urgent call to the police and all relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into this matter,” the statement added. “It is imperative that those responsible for this act are identified and held accountable under the law to prevent further escalation… The pursuit of leadership should never come at the cost of peace or human safety.”
Extending condolences to the family of the deceased, the campaign council affirmed that it would not be deterred by acts of intimidation and assured supporters that all legitimate means would be utilized to protect voters and safeguard the integrity of the upcoming polls.
