ASABA — Police operatives in Delta State have arrested a 22-year-old man following an attempted sexual assault on an eight-year-old girl.
The suspect was apprehended during a second attempt to assault the minor, after an initial attempt failed.
Confessing to the crime following his arrest, the suspect admitted to targeting the young victim on multiple occasions.
“I didn’t succeed the first time,” the suspect stated. “When I tried for the second time, was when they apprehended me.”
The arrest has drawn sharp condemnation from child rights advocates and local community members, who are demanding a thorough investigation and swift prosecution by law enforcement authorities.
Stakeholders and social welfare advocates have reiterated calls for heightened vigilance within neighborhoods and strict legal action against perpetrators of child abuse and gender-based violence across the state.
