DUTSE — Police operatives in Jigawa State have arrested a 25-year-old nursing officer, Sadik Sale Yahaya, and a 20-year-old female accomplice, Khadija Aliyu, in connection with the alleged abduction of a child from the paediatric ward of Babura General Hospital.
The arrest followed a distress call received by the Jigawa State Police Command reporting the sudden disappearance of the child from the hospital facility.
Confirming the development, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, disclosed that intelligence-led operations tracked the female suspect, Khadija Aliyu—a resident of Kinkinau Quarters in Kaduna State—to the outskirts of Babura town while in possession of the abducted boy.
Subsequent interrogations led to the arrest of Yahaya, a nursing officer attached to Babura General Hospital, who allegedly conspired with Aliyu to carry out the operation.
According to the police spokesperson, preliminary investigations revealed that Aliyu intended to transport the child to an orphanage in Kaduna State with plans to sell him for ₦2 million.
“The female suspect confessed during interrogation that she took the child with the intention of selling him for two million naira,” Adam stated.
The police confirmed that the rescued child has been placed in protective custody and will be reunited with his family following verification procedures. Both suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to determine if other members of a broader child-trafficking syndicate were involved.
