He made this known during his interactive sessions with scholars, legislators, political  leaders and business community in the state at Government House, Kano, Friday, adding that the decision was taken to avoid any unforeseen circumstance.

“As we are waiting for this important visit, we found ourselves in this situation, which puts citizens into untold hardship. For security purpose we wrote to Presidency that President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Kano be postponed.

We got an acknowledgement copy of the letter. People are really suffering because  of this policy,” governor said.

During the meeting with sections of citizens in the state, they accepted that, the decision was a unanimous one. As they all spoke in support of the letter sent to Presidency.

Two serving Senators from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya and Barau Jibrin, Twenty members of House of Representatives and Thirty legislators from the State House of Assembly were amongst the groups that put their weight behind the governor.

He lamented that, “There are no banks in most of our rural communities. How these people get new Naira notes is of great concern. Just look at what is happening in our urban areas, people go and spend hours upon hours in banks. And without any assurances of getting the new notes.”

Even at Point of Sales (POS) according to the governor, one cannot transact with ease, hinting that, many of them closed shops due to uncertainty.

He emphasized that, Kano being a commercial hub must be heard loudly, insisting that, “This problem affects all of us. Therefore our voice must be heard in all nooks and crannies. We are a commercial hub. As such our position must be loud and clear.”

Governor Ganduje reveals further that, under one platform, Nigerian governors  without consideration to party affiliation, sent delegates to President Buhari complaining to him about the hardship caused by the new development.

“Governors from all the political parties put heads together and sent delegates, but to no avail. So also traditional rulers followed the same path, but individually. But up to now there is nothing in that respect,” disclosed.

In Kano, according to him, government calls leaders of all sections of people around, whenever situation like this arises. Revealing that, “We invited scholars who were here yesterday. And today we are having this interactive sessions with you business community and our legislators.”

To revalidate the position of Kano people, as contained in the letter sent, governor Ganduje would take representatives from sections of the populace to go and see President Buhari and hear from them verbatim.

2023: I’m still in senatorial race —Victor Umeh speaks after court disqualification

By Izunna Okafor, Awka

The disqualified senatorial candidate of the Labour Party for Anambra Central Senatorial Zone, Chief Victor Umeh, has said he’s still contesting the 2023 general election.

Chief Umeh was, on Friday, disqualified from contesting the February 25 senatorial election, by a High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State capital.

The court, presided over by Hon Justice H. A.  Nganjiwa, declared that Umeh violated the provisions of the Electoral Act by standing for elections in same senatorial zone under two different political parties. It also ruled that Umeh’s name was still in the membership register of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) as at the time he emerged the Labour Party’s senatorial flag bearer for the zone on Sept 30, 2022.

The court further revealed that there was no evidence that the resignation letter purportedly submitted by Chief Umeh to APGA was actually received by the party leadership. It therefore nullified Umeh’s candidacy and faulted the publication of Umeh’s name as LP senatorial candidate for Anambra Central by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

To cap up its ruling, the court also issuing an injunction restraining Umeh from parading himself as a senatorial candidate.

However, Umeh, while addressing his supporters at a function shortly after the judgement, told them to remain unwavering, as he is still in the race.

He described the legal challenge as a machination to forestall his journey to the red chamber, even as he urged his supporters to come out en masse on the election and vote for the Labour Party, after which they should go home and relax, on the belief that they have voted capable hands and sane people into power.

He also reassured his constituents and Ndị Igbo in general of speaking their minds, giving them quality representation and empowerments, among other dividends of democracy.

Umeh further revealed that he has appealed the court judgement, while urging his supporters to remain calm, as he is optimistic of getting justice.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had at a presidential rally in Abeokuta told the party supporters that the redesigning of currency and fuel scarcity was an act of sabotage.

Though the All Progressive Congress (APC),  Presidential Council team has denied the allegations saying that Bola Ahmed Tinubu was quoted out of context as according to Bayo Onanga, the spokesperson of the PCC , ” Tinubu was only drawing the attention of the Government to the sabotage by the opponents”

However, Garus Gololo, an APC Chieftain and one of the supporters and Coordinators of the Tinubu/ Shetima Campaign in the North -East told news in Abuja on Friday that “The scarcity and redesigning of currency is indeed targeted at Tinubu and Shetima”

“We have also come to the conclusion that president Buhari and some of his kitchen cabinets are working against the aspirations and candidature of Tinubu and Shetima presidency”

Gololo warned that unless something urgent is done to reverse the current hardship occasioned by the perennial scarcity and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), s redesigning policy the party and its candidates will face a major revolt from Nigerians.

“Buhari had enjoyed all the needed support when he was contesting. He contested thrice and lost, if not for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other patriotic members of the party, he couldn’t have won the election. For him President Buhari to turn round to use fuel scarcity and currency designs to weak our campaign is unfortunate, but we will not give up”

Part of the plan to sustain the campaign according to Gololo is the mobilization of 6000 bicycles and Carmel to continue with the campaign in the North – east.

Already the group over the weekend has begun mobilization of its members to sustain their campaign for Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Shetima for the February 2023.

Meanwhile, Dr. Gololo has sent a congratry message the Governor Oyetola of Osun state for his victory at the Tribunal saying it is a victory for democracy and the Electoral Act.

Big Blow Hits Labour Party As Court Disqualifies Senator Victor Umeh

The Federal High Court 1 sitting at Awka,, Anambra state, presided over by Justice H. A. Nganjiwa has disqualified Chief Victor Umeh, the Senatorial candidate of the Labour Party, LP for Anambra Central Senatorial District from contesting the February 25, 2023 Senatorial election for the senatorial district.

With this development, a deadly blow appeared to have hit the Labour party as it would no longer parade any candidate for the senatorial district unless the Court of Appeal reversed the lower court verdict on or before the election day.

Delivering a judgement yesterday in a suit filed against the Labour party and Senator Umeh, by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and its Anambra Central Senatorial candidate, Senator Uche Ekwunife, the court, in its three-hour judgment, disqualified Umeh on the grounds of non compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act as it concerns the membership status of one to contest a party primary.

The court noted that there was no evidence that the resignation letter by Chief Umeh to the leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA was actually received by the party, hence his name was still in the register of members of APGA as at September 30, 2022 when he was said to have contested APGA primary.

The court contended that Umeh’s name was not in the register of members of the Labour party as at June 3, 2022, when the Labour party held its own primary election.

The court therefore declared as null and void the publication of Umeh’s name as a candidate earlier by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC as he failed to comply with the relevant provisions of the Electoral Act and the LP constitution.

The court therefore declared the publication as null and void and of no effect.

Court also issued an injunction restraining Umeh from further parading himself as Senatorial candidate of LP henceforth, adding that the injunction also prohibited the LP from accepting or presenting Umeh as her candidate.

Meantime, reactions have continued to trail the court verdict.

In his reaction, the Anambra Chairman of Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Council, Chief Joel martins Uzodike has described the judgement as an error on the ground that the suit is a matter for election petition tribunal as according to him, the plaintiffs have no business meddling into an internal affair of another political party.

Uzodike who to newsmen on phone, shorty after the judgement, said the verdict would have no negative effect on the Labour party or its Candidate, Umeh because it would not take them much to rush to the Court of Appeal to appeal against the judgement and at the same time file a stay of executive and continue with his campaign programmes.

He therefore urged party faithfuls not to lose sleep over the verdict but to remain calm, focused and watch events as they unfold.

Also an aide of Senator Umeh who spoke on to newsmen on phone on anonymous condition, said Umeh may not have heard of the verdict or might not be perturbed about it as he was eveñ busy that yesterday carrying out his campaign programme at Achalla community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra state.
