By Okey Maduforo Awka

Former governor of Anambra state Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife and the leadership of Evangelical Fellowship of Nigeria led by Apostle Victor Ndulue have described the call for the arrest of the Labour Party Presidential candidate and his Running Mate Mr Peter Obi and Yusuf Datti Ahmed .

According to Ezeife the likes of Keyamo should be advised not to draw the anger of the Nigerian electorates who were denied the opportunity to chose their leaders.

“Who is Festus Keyamo that we would have to lose sleep about? The Department of State Security DSS know the grave consequences of attempting to arrest Peter Obi and Yusuf Datti Ahmed and they will not allow themselves to be used as a tool to destabilize and overheat the polity.”

“I urged President Muhammadu Buhari to call Keyamo to order before his statements draw the anger of Nigerians who were denied the opportunity to chose their leaders in the last general election ”

“It is simply because the personality of Peter Obi and Yusuf Datti Ahmed is one that loves peace and dye process in whatever they are doing and that is why the entire Nigerian youths have remained calm and that young man should not take that for granted ” he said.

President of the Evangelical Fellowship of Nigeria Apostle Victor Ndulue told reporters that any attempt to arrest Obi and Datti would turn the country into Libya and this is not good for our country at this time *

“That demand for the arrest of Peter Obi and Yusuf Datti Ahmed is indeed idiotic and baseless and I want tell those saying that to be mindful of what they are saying because the youths of this country are watching ”

“Instead Keyamo should be arrested by the security operatives for those comments and statements about the election because this is becoming inciting and the youths are getting agitated about it ”

“We have had an election here in this country and the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC raped our democratic process and stole the mandate of our people and someone somewhere is calling for the arrest of the winners of that election and I call it totally idiotic “he said.

Obasanjo Warns Against Igbo Phobia

…Lauds Soludo/ Iwuala As His Best

Former President of Nigeria Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has warned against the dangers of the conspiracy against the Igbos of the South East which he described as Igbo Phobia contending that it would not mean well for the unity and development of the country.

Obasanjo who spoke at the one year anniversary celebration of the regime of Gov Charles Soludo in Awka further insisted that a of all the appointments that he made while in office as President that of Soludo as Central Bank of Nigeria CBN governor and the appointment of Mrs Okonjo Iwuala as the Minister for Finance .

“When I appointed Prof Charles Soludo as my economic adviser I worked with him very well and I was highly impressed with him so I chose to appoint him the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN and he was one governor of CBN that was not from the commercial bank and he performed wonderfully well”

“But on one occasion somebody came to me and said you completely ruined the economy of this country by appointing an Igbo person Minister for Finance and another Igbo person Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria”

“That is what I call Igbo Phobia it remains, it persists and I like what Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu said and I believe him whole and entire”

“I believe that on the 13th of January 1970 Biafra died and was buried in the house of my friend Simon Okeke at Amichi and I believe we have to go back to the scripture that we must conquer evil with good and wherever you find yourself and people are are afraid of you try to be friendly with them and be good to them and that is the only way to conquer evil with good”

“I appointed Soludo and Okonjo Iwuala and I think probably that of all the appointments that I made while in office these two appointments were the best ”

Obasanjo while congratulating Soludo over his achievements within one year in office further posited that his position as Anambra state governor is more of an appetizer and that the higher position is still awaiting him after being governor.

“I commend you for what you are doing in Anambra state and if in one year you can do so much with your learn resources and carry out massive road construction of 261 km of roads then you will do a lot in the three years”

Speaking earlier Gov Charles Soludo noted that with the four pillars of his administration which have been put to use within one year the state would be coasting to great infrastructural development.

Soludo recalled that his first one year in office saw the employment of 5,000 teachers 400 medical personnel as well as the constitution of 261 km of roads.

He noted that the all revenue leakages have been check mated as well as the reconstruction of the public properties destroyed by the gunmen.

He further announced that the fight against insecurity has received appreciable success adding that his administration is poised towards ensuring that it’s campaign promises are kept for the good of the state

I Want to Build Anambra So That My Children Can Come Home —Soludo

By Izunna Okafor, Awka

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has expressed his interest to spend the rest of his life in Anambra State, building the State to be such that the citizens should be proud of, and his children can come home and live.

Governor Soludo stated while signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Commission (EEDC) at the State Government House in Awka, the State capital.

According to the Governor, the aim of the signing of the MOU was to resolve the challenges of inconsistent power supply in the state, as part of his government’s journey towards making Anambra a liveable and prosperous homeland, which, he said, cannot be achieved without regular power supply.

Soludo, who revealed that Enugu State had been his primary residence in Nigeria, said he would now spend the rest of his life in Anambra, building the state so that his children can come home, walk the streets, and live.

He said, “Today is a historic day for the people and the state. The signing of this MOU with EEDC will completely translate into positive changes, which is critical for the journey towards a liveable and prosperous homeland, that cannot be achieved without continuous supply of power.

“Long before I was sworn in as Governor of Anambra State, I recognized the importance of power and deeply considered how it could be achieved in the shortest period of time for at least three to four major cities in the state.

“What we did today was to consummate that marriage. The courtship began over a year ago, and I’m overjoyed that the marriage has finally been consummated today.

“Anambra is a state in which more than 60% of the people’s non-land assets are domiciled outside of the state. If 20% of the proceeds are returned to Anambra, the state can become what we envision it to be.

“I see the strategic partnership with EEDC and the magnitude of the investment. My message to the rest of Anambra’s billionaires and millionaires is that acquiring wealth and networth alone are insufficient. The question is, how much of your wealth and assets are domiciled in the state for Anambra to be the number one choice for living, working, investing, relaxing, and enjoying?

“The Anambra of our dreams will not happen by wishful thinking, but each of us must contribute our fair share.

“Of course, it’s business, and I see the problems and challenges listed here by the EEDC, such as asset vandalism, the legal framework, and so on.

“You can’t continue if you make an investment and people consume power but don’t pay; if you can’t recover and recoup, you can’t continue.

“On behalf of the Government of Anambra State, I assure you that I am firmly convinced that this is the right path to take. This is not a political statement to appease the masses. People will raise concerns if they do not see results within three months of signing this MOU.

“I vowed to make Anambra a state in which I would be proud to live. My primary residence in Nigeria has been Enugu, but I will now spend the rest of my life in Anambra, building this state so that my children can come home, walk the streets, and live.

“The commitment to this partnership is a matter of life and death. We have to make it work. What else will work if there is no electricity? We are attempting to transit from a largely informal commerce and trading state to an industrialized state.

“Without power, we cannot have sustainable industrialization. We are dealing with insecurity and basic infrastructure, including power.

“We have already acquired some land for our industrial cities in Akwaihedi, Uga, and other places.

“We have acquired 200 hectares for the Ogboji Pharmaceutical Industrial Park and are nearing the completion of a 4000 hectare industrial city and an export emporium.

“While attempting to transform the industrial sector, we must not lose sight of the state’s initial industrial clusters in order for them to function effectively.

“I expect all parties involved to work quickly to complete this project properly. We will have an execution committee with whom we will interact on a daily basis. We also require a legal framework to address issues of asset theft and vandalism; an enabling law must be drafted within the next four weeks.

“People have testified that the state’s power supply has improved, but we want it to get to the point where the next generation of people in the state will take it for granted and accept it as a natural thing

“We are looking forward to the metering company, which will create jobs and generate tax revenue for the state.”

…says I’ll won’t promise, fail

Taraba State Governor-elect, Lt. Col Agbu Kefas (rtd), has promised to keep all the promises he made during the electioneering campaigns.

He specifically said that “the era of promise and fail is over.”

According to him, his victory at the governorship election was part of the social contract he struck with the people.

Kefas said that the people have reposed in him their future and hopes and he would not take it lightly.

The governor-elect made the promise in a statement by his Spokesperson, Emmanuel Bello, obtained by journalists in Abuja.

He said, “Giving me this mandate is a serious matter and the social contract I have with the people is one I take seriously. I won’t play with their mandate. I promise to fulfill all I said and we shall accomplish them in our first 100 days in office.

“The campaign helped me to listen to the yearnings of the people in more ways than before. All that they told me I hold very sacred. Their dreams, hopes and aspirations I won’t let down. As a leader, my words are my bonds. Let me also state that my conviction and faith makes me a man of my words.”

Kefas said leadership is a collective duty and that he looks forward to the citizens doing their part by supporting the programmes of his coming administration.

He stressed that he was coming basically to make the youths very secure, especially in employment, infrastructure and credible developments.

Enugu guber: Don’t go to court – Ohanaeze youths beg opposition parties, congratulates Peter Mbah

By Abdulateef Bamgbose

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has reacted to the outcome of the Enugu State governorship election held on March 18, 2023.

This is coming as the key opposition political parties in the Coal City State have all rejected the declaration of Barr. Peter Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the winner of the election.

They have all indicated intention to challenge the outcome of the polls before the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal.

However, in a statement by the Ohanaeze Youths National President, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, he urged the aggrieved parties to jettison the idea of challenging Mbah’s victory in court.

Okwu said Mbah, having extended a hand of fellowship to his opponents, they should accept it in the interest of the entire State.

He said, “we are gladdened that the people of Enugu State gave their mandate to Barr. Peter Mbah, just as we pleaded with them when we gave him our endorsement.

“Now that Mbah has emerged as winner of the election, the time of politicking is over; only one person will be declared winner, but in the real sense of it, everyone won. It is a victory for everyone, including those who contested against him.

“We, therefore, appeal to all the aggrieved parties to sheath their swords and join the governor-elect to move Enugu State forward. The period of litigation always comes with so many distractions and this may not augur well for the State.”

The Ohanaeze youths then called on Mbah to make real his olive branch to the opposition parties.

“We urge the governor-elect to work his talk by embracing the other candidates genuinely and making them part of his government,” Okwu advised.

Osun Poll: History won’t forget Appeal Court Justices, says Timi Frank

0

…congratulates Adeleke

A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, on Saturday, congratulated the Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, over the reinstatement of his mandate by the Appeal Court.

According to him, history will not forget the Justices who decided the case and stuck to the truth.

Frank in a statement in Abuja, also lauded the Justices of the Appeal Court that courageously decided the case and upheld the victory of Senator Adeleke as the duly elected Governor of Osun state, despite attempt by the tribunal to fraudulently upturn the mandate.

He however called on Adeleke to be focused on his development strides by wiping the tears of the people and delivering the state from backwardness now that distraction of the court case has been put to rest by the judgement of the court.

He thanked the Appeal Court justices and by extension the Nigerian judiciary for mustering the courage to uphold the Truth and Justice, saying, “We want to see this in them in other election’s petition cases.”

Frank, who is the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP), Ambassador to East Africa and Middle East, urged the Judiciary to know that in areas where they have done well, Nigerians and the world will hail them but when they do wrong, Nigerians will call them out.

He said, “We hope the Judiciary will bring this courage to bare in doing the needful in deciding the Presidential election petition cases now before them.

“The Judiciary must realize that the only hope Nigerians have today is in them. We hope they will not dash that hope.

“We know there will be pressure on them by the powers-that-be to do the wrong thing, but they must be guided by the bigger picture which is to free the people from exploitation and slavery in taking their final decision.

“History will not forget the Justices that decided the Adeleke Versus Gboyega Oyetola Appeal for sticking to the truth.

“Despite the oppression, they remained courageous. However, this is not the end of their task. A greater task beckons and that task is to redeem the damaged image and lost glory of the judiciary.

“We believe there still exist some incorruptible judges with good conscience. This is not the time for the judiciary to sell justice. It is time to give justice back to the people.

“Nigerians and the world look forward to the Judiciary to restore the presidential mandate which has once again been stolen from the people the same way they upheld Adeleke’s victory and restored his mandate

“It is an open secret that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) totally disregarded their own guidelines and did not follow the rule of law during the presidential and National Assembly elections.

“The Justices of the Appeal Court now have the opportunity to write their name in gold by restoring the lost confidence to the judiciary again.

“Majority of Nigerians have in recent time lost hope and confidence in the judiciary but with this judgement the hope and confidence of the people has been rekindled.

“We hope the Judiciary keeps and sustains this renewed confidence now rejuvenated through this courageous judgement.”

Ramadan Fasting in Islam – By Garba Adamu Gwangwangwan

Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic Hijri Calendar and is a month of fasting, repentance, and good deeds. Fasting in Ramadan upholds Sawm, one of the Pillars of Islam, which means ‘to fast.

According to religious, traditions, fasting is a form of self-discipline and a way to show devotion to God or a higher power. For example, Muslims observe a month-long fast during the holy month of Ramadan, where they abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs from dawn until sunset each day.

In addition to religious and spiritual reasons, fasting is also practiced for health reasons. Studies have shown that intermittent fasting can have a variety of health benefits, including improved insulin sensitivity, weight loss, and reduced inflammation.

It is pertinent to note that fasting may not be appropriate for everyone, particularly those with certain medical conditions or who are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is always recommended to consult with a healthcare provider before beginning any fasting regimen.

“O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous.” [Quran 2:183]

The purpose of Islamic fasting is to adopt self-control over worldly desires; to surrender to God and develop self-discipline and spiritual awareness, to purify the body, heart, soul, and mind; and to improve patience and empathize with those who are living in hunger and poverty.

Ramadan is one of the lunar months of Islam which
fasting is prescribed for all Muslims who have
attained puberty, healthy and sane to observe it for the whole month.

“O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it
was prescribed to those before you so that you can
learn Taqwa” (Quran 2:183).
The Arabic word Taqwa is translated in many ways
including God consciousness, God fearing, piety, and
self restraining. Thus, we are asked to fast daily for
one month from dawn to sunset and avoid food,
water, sex and vulgar talk during that period. From the
verse above, we understand that fasting is a
continuous process that has been practiced by the
prophets before Prophet Muhammad (saw).
Ramadan is the only month that fasting is compulsory
on Muslims.

It is crystal clear that fasting is only compulsory in the
month of Ramadan. Ramadan is not compulsory for
children, insane, menstruating women, sick person,
old person, breast feeding woman and traveller. The
sick person, traveller and menstruating woman have
to pay back the missing days but the breast feeding
woman and old person can feed people during
Ramadan in substitute.

The sacred month is divided into three parts in 10- day each,
the fist 10-day is mercy of Allah, the second 10-day is
Forgiveness and the last 10-day is emancipation from
slavery.

Many people are fasting today and it doesn’t reflect in
them that they are actually fasting. Their behaviour
and perception is not changed during the month of Ramadan compare to the months before.

The prophet said. “many a times, those who fast have
nothing for their fasting except hunger and thirst”. So,
as a believer who is fasting, you have to adhere to the
commandments of Allah guiding fasting and expiate all
acts that candeny you of having reward of what you are
suffering for. Let fasting reflect in all our actions!
The prophet (saw) continues: “fasting is a barrier from
evils, so if one of you is fasting, he should avoid all
immoral acts, even if someone abuses or fights him,
he should look away and say ‘I am fasting.
