ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Tanimu Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has waived all screening requirements for former President Goodluck Jonathan, officially clearing him as its sole presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The decision was announced on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, by a member of the faction’s presidential screening committee and former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu.

The Basis of the Waiver

Speaking to journalists in Abuja after the evaluation session, Aliyu explained that Jonathan’s extensive political résumé made standard vetting procedures entirely unnecessary.

Aliyu cited Jonathan’s extensive experience, from deputy governor to president, as the reason for waiving the screening, declaring him the candidate.
