According to the APGA stalwart, Prince Eze has been made a target of attacks as the campaign season for the 2025 gubernatorial election draws closer in the state.

“We know the game plan,” he said.

He further said that Eze was a special gift that comes once in a generation, like the late Michael Jackson.

“Many have benefited from him. In fact, over 85% of people in Igbo land have benefitted from Arthur Eze in one way or the other,” he asserted.

“He is and has been a natural philanthropist. One of a kind. He gives to all, not minding religious or ethnic background. People are not aware that on his birthdays, he shares billions to financially disadvantaged people,” Igwe APGA revealed.

Use of Electoral College to Elect Monarch Sparks Crisis in Anambra Community

By Izunna Okafor, Awka

The Traditional Council of Ihite Community in Orumba South Local Government Area which is the body responsible for the selection of monarch in the community has berated the President General of the community, Mr George Madu for bypassing them to elect a traditional ruler.

The Council said it was not part of the constitution of the community for an electoral college to be set up to elect a monarch.

During a meeting of the Council at the weekend, it said the constitution of the community, which Madu had long jettisoned stipulated that only the Traditional Council and the executive of the town union has the power to come together and elect a new monarch.

The Council members who met and spoke to the media during the meeting included Sir Chief Dominic Ahamkonye, Chief Daniel Ifemkpa, Mr. Anudu Ephraim and Chief Geoffrey Okeke, many others.

Speaking one after the other, the council members said: “It has never happened like that in the history of Ihite. We were meeting with the town union executive for them to join us so that we can kickstart the process of electing a new Igwe for the community since its been two years already that the last monarch died.

“We were surprised that the PG set up what he called electoral college, and before long, they said they have selected a new traditional ruler for Ihite.

“Where has it ever been heard that the election for the monarch was done without the input of the traditional council, or that the election was done outside Ihite. It is shame that in what they called the election of a traditional ruler, women lined up to vote. Things are not done like that.”

They called on the Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo to discountenance the exercise, and not to issue a certificate to the new monarch, Mr Timothy Ifurunwa.

Meanwhile, the President General who was accused of masterminding the process, Mr. Madu has dismissed the Traditional Council as few disgruntled elements who are opposed to the progress of the community.

Big Buttocks, a Major Cause of Road Traffic Crashes in Nigeria — Findings of a Concerned Bachelor

By Izunna Okafor, Awka

When we think of road traffic crashes in Nigeria, the usual causes that come to mind are speeding, drunk driving, wrong overtaking, poor road conditions and road unworthiness of the vehicles involved (such as tyre burst, brake failure, etc).

However, there’s a less conventional factor that deserves clear attention: Big Buttocks.

Although, this may sound humorous at first, the reality is that the phenomenon poses a serious risk on our roads in this country. As, we may know, this a complex issue that intertwines cultural aesthetics, societal expectations, and the distractions they may cause to drivers (Ọkada and Keke drivers also inclusive).

In Nigeria and even in many other countries, big buttocks are celebrated and highly admired as a mark of beauty and attractiveness of a woman/lady. This high admiration undoubtedly creates an unintended distraction on the roads, as it is usually uncommon for some drivers, especially men, not to look, admire or be momentarily distracted by (walking or roadside standing) ladies adorned with such pronounced features, especially those who their own are eyely and apparent.

Unarguably, some of these ladies deliberately and strategically position, swing or dangle these buttocks along the road to attract attention, knowing or without knowing the resultant effects of what they are doing.

This reporter, Izunna Okafor, has discovered that part of the primary dangers posed by big buttocks in traffic is the distraction they can create for drivers; and when these drivers take their eyes off the road to observe or admire, even for just a few seconds, the risk of a crash significantly increases.

The reporter, also concerned bachelor, took time to interview some shuttle bus drivers and tricycle operators in Awka metropolis, including Chibuike Anosike (popular known as Mmiri), Jude Chukwukwa (Star Boy), Emmanuel Enukora, and Nnamdi Agwuncha, who recounted personal experiences of how big buttocks had diverted their focus while on steering.

As for the effects, while two of them reported swerving off the road, one other said he brushed an oncoming vehicle, while the other had a tale of a near-miss with some school children whom he nearly crushed while they were crossing road at Ifite behind the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Although these accounts might sound lighthearted, they underscore a serious safety concern.

In addition to road traffic crashes, big buttocks also cause traffic gridlock (hold-up or go-slow) on the road in many ways.

It is good to note that crashes or hold-ups caused by distraction from big buttocks are usually not attributed to them by traffic wardens, whom themselves are even sometimes distracted by the same thing, thereby causing them to look focus or mis-control a vehicle, with its resultant effects.

Deliberately or indeliberately, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reports rarely cite distractions caused by big buttocks as an accident cause, probably because they were not there when the accident happened, because the eyewitness account didn’t capture it, or because such issue is not considered an official traffic violation.

By this, will it not be helpful for government to recognize dangling of big buttocks along the road as a serious traffic offence and a threat to public safety?

The concerned authority may need to give this a thought. More research is needed to quantify and establish the impact of this issue. FRSC could explore collection of data on the role of distractions caused by big buttocks in crashes. This data would help inform targeted interventions.

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) of Ghana is already considering a study on similar issue.

This reporter made attempts to get the views of the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State, CC Adeoye Irelewuyi, on the matter, which proved abortive, as he did not pick his call or respond to the text message sent to him to that effect.

Notwithstanding the sensitivity surrounding the topic, raising such awareness as this publication and others is also very crucial.

Drivers must recognize that any distraction, including the allure of big buttocks, can have serious consequences.

By noting these dangers of being distracted by big buttocks, drivers can work towards reducing its impact on road safety, probably by looking just once and then focusing back on their driving, or by even not looking at all; after all that glitters is not gold.

In Anambra, Protesters Hit Street Over Ownership, Alleged Locking Up of Ugborimili Primary School, Fegge

By Izunna Okafor, Awka

As part of measures to end an already lingering crisis, residents of Housing Estate Fegge, Onitsha have appealed to Anambra State Government to take over ownership and control of the Ugborimili Primary School in the area.

The residents made the appeal during a protest in Fegge, where they expressed their grievances about how things are going in the school, especially as it concerns its stringent Management that have denied the residents access to the school premises.

The protesters, who marched round the various streets in the community, were seen bearing placards with various inscriptions that help capture and drive home their grievances, the message, and their appeal some of the inscriptions read: “Ugborimili Primary School is a Public School, not a mission school”, “Prof. Charles C. Soludo, Please, Don’t Allow This Error to Continue in this Your Tenure”, “Ugborimili Primary School Field Remains the Only Field for Sports and Exercise for Housing Communities and It’s Environs”, among others.

Addressing newsmen shortly after the protest, some stakeholders who have lived in the Estate community for over thirty years, Chief Stanley Ibom, Mr. Nnaemeka Chine, and Hon. Dennis Samuel went memory lane on the history of Ugborimili Primary School, noting that the school was established during the government of Jim Nwobodo between 1975 and 1979, as the development of Bridge Head Housing Estate was going.

According to them, the school premises was being used by different churches and the community as place of their religious and social activities, until recently when a certain Roman Catholic Church laid claim to the school and locked up the premises, denying the residents access into it.

On their own parts, other residents, including Sir Sam. C. Okafor, Chief Timothy Ikezuagu and Dr. Chioma Onwuasoigwe, expressed sadness that during the handover of schools owned by mission during the Peter Obi Administration, the Committee that handled it apparently did not consider the idea of inviting the general public to assist it with more information that would have assisted them to properly separate or distinguish between which schools truly belonged to the public and churches, many of whom then laid claims on many public schools then without evidences.

They also regretted that the Committee resorted to the Eastern Nigeria Directory of Schools published in 1964, seen it as the cheapest route out of the inability of missions to back up their claims with relevant documents.

The residents also stated that the two immediate-past administrations in the state deployed executive orders to satisfy the aspirations of the missions, without anyone standing for the interest of the general public, with reference to public schools.

They further said that various court injunctions have been issued to the said church to stop work within the premises, which the church jettisoned and even continues to set up more structures on the school’s land.

Contributing, a coach in the Estate, Mr. Charles Osondu recalled that the Ugborimili Primary School field, which is the only field in the area, used was the field where the residents were using for their trainings and sporting activities for over thirty years, before it was recently locked up by Management of Catholic Church laying claim to its ownership. This, he said, has, among other implications, deprived the community access to the field premises. He also lamented that the Church has made the hitherto community school very exorbitant that the children of the less privileged in the area can no longer afford to school there.

Also speaking, another sport enthusiast, Rapuluchukwu Chukwuneke said at the moment, under 13 and 15 Football Team are supposed to be training at the Ugborimili Primary School Field ahead of an upcoming competition, but cannot, because the Catholic Church locked up the school premises.

The residents therefore joined voice to call on the Anambra State Government to retrieve and take over the school, so as to make it accessible to the public and also make the field open for public use as it used to be before, to avoid the matter escalating or brewing up more crises.

Addressing the protesters, Archbishop Mike Chukwudum in charge of Rock Fire Global Mission, who is also a resident of Housing Estate Fegge Onitsha and Spiritual Father of the community gave further overview and shed more light on the history of school, having lived there since 1972, said he had personally wrote to the government with his office as an advocate of peace, for the school to be retained as public school, because it is serving the public and stood as the only sporting and recreation center in the area, all to no avail.

He, however, enjoined the residents to remain calm and prayerful, as they will use every necessary avenue to reclaim the school and ensure it is made accessible to the public.

From Joshua Chibuzom

Sir Ubaku, the admission officer of Imo State University, Said; his hands are clean as he can only vow for himself and not to anybody.

The current tensions and palpable fears over Students Admissions fallout in Imo State University Owerri on the incredible and increasing admissions racketeering tip of has been cleared by the Institution, Chief Admission’s Officer , Sir Ndubuisi Ubaku that the said Purported admissions do not originated from the right source or his Office.

He denied personal and official involvement in any unduly and unruly involvement in admissions racketeering and pointed out that the Students affected in the saga should be forthcoming to explained in details how they get the Purported admissions and to make it easier for the institution to notify the public and also be aware of the loopholes and cracks in the system.

Sir Ubaku, one of the Elders in the Institution said that his hands are clean as he can only vow for himself and not to anybody else as he expecting nothing but the truth from the affected Students even their parents because according to him, mostly, it’s the parents that do the bargaining and not the Students as the case of hacking into the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, (JAMB) portal is a serious and sensitive issues as the Students affected by the saga has more questions to answer as the School is prepared to get it right and get rid of quackery and fake Admissions no matter the number of years in the School by the Student. ‘How can a student being in the school for 4 years without registration numbers and we have both JAMB and School Registration numbers”.

Speaking to our Journalists shortly after his return from the Anti Graft Agency in Abuja , Chief Ubaku disclosed that Independent Corruption Practice Commission (ICPC) swooped on the school following furry and allegations mainly from JAMB through the students mainly from the law faculty , Medicine , Nursing and other related deciplines in IMSU.

Chief Ndubuisi Ubaku who is a knight of “St Christopher in the Catholic Church” speaking against the Campaign of calumny and the smear of his image and Integrity by the detractors as the story started when JAMB gave instructions to give waver, that students with JAMB related issues to fills the “students condolement forms” on the students admitted between 2020 to their office upwards to ensure that those students who came under direct entry are carried along with the JAMB requirements but it was surprised that even many Students since 2018 are affected causing pandemic in the exercise.

According to him, it was the exercise that triggered the crisis and lingered a suspection over the admission Office whereby Students that did not get genuine admissions from Imo state University but got Jamb admission without Clearance or School Admission was forwarded to the school as the Agency suspected hacking into their system and a thorough check has exonerated him from the allegations.

In his words,”The story is where are those students with JAMB registrations to IMSU are when the admission is ongoing only to return many years after to make noise”, “Imo State University relied on JAMB Admission quota system and any other thing outside the quota we are not involved”.

“JAMB usually allocate number of students that will be admitted and it’s my office that is responsible for the entry into the institution. A student must present admission letter from IMSU that must tally with our Provisions. When you don’t have both papers , means anomaly”.

“This is what we have asked the effected students to prove why they did not regularize their admissions because we admit based on JAMB information on our disposal and nothing shoddy at all’

” The admission process goes with procedures . In 2020 session , JAMB allocated to IMSU 6037 Students . In 2022 we got above 7,000 Provisional while as in 2023 JAMB gave us 7,322. How those students got their admissions is a false and action in need of adequate investigation”.

Chief Ubaku maintained his innocence as he stated that Jamb came to IMSU and queried how those students got JAMB admission letters and declared and accused IMSU of hacking into Jamb Portal .” I am not involved , and never sale any Placement . I never and will never be involved in any complicity. I hate cutting corners”. Sir Ubaku said.

He also exonerated his office but it was observed that one out of the three alleged involved in the admissions racketeering after returning from ICPC Abuja was hurriedly redeployed to another department from the Admission Office as a cover up against the heinous crime and allegations of racketeering, selling of Admissions and extortion of money by the school management.

By Izunna Okafor, Awka

The people of Amanuke community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State have protested and appealed the urgent intervention of the government over the leadership tussle in the community and the surprised disappearance of two lister generators donated to the town by MTN.

The people, during the protest, held over the weekend, also indicted the some individuals in the community in the said disappearance of the generators. They further lamented that the criminal incident has strangulated the economic life of the town.

By Izunna Okafor, Awka

At least one male adult has lost his life while one other got injured, as a speeding driver of a Sienna Bus rammed into a motionless faulty truck in Anambra State.

The fatal crash occured at about 8:26am on Sunday, April 28, along the Igbariam axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

Confirming this in a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday, ARC Charles Iyiegbuniwe, Staff Officer, Public Education at the Anambra State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said the crash involved a Truck BENZ 1513 (with the Registration Number UKP381ZU) and a green Sienna of LIVETH VATTEN LTD (with the Registration number KRD429AG). He also said the crash involved a total of 10 persons, comprising 7 males, and 3 females.

According to him, eyewitness account revealed that the driver of the Seinna bus, one Mr. Rufus Chime, was approaching with speed without knowing that the truck ahead broke down; which, when he noticed it, he tried to swing off, but could not control the speed, hence, he hit the truck.

“Before the arrival of the FRSC rescue team, sympathizers had rushed the injured victim to the Toronto Hospital, while the dead person was taken to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital’s mortuary, in Amaku, Awka,” he explained.

“He also buttressed that they should always reduce heavy loads than the vehicle and driver can control and always fix their vehicles to be road worthy. Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi explicitly advised that only way to kill fatality of crash is to drive in a controllable speed limit manner,” he concluded.

Uzodimma Move To Abolish Imo Polytechnics Campuses Except One In His Omuma Home-town

0

Signs indicate that under Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma’s leadership, the Imo State government is considering consolidating the Imo State Polytechnic into a single-location campus, potentially situated in his hometown of Omuma.

Originally established in 2007 with a campus in Umuagwo Ohaji, the Imo State Polytechnic later adopted a multi-campus system under the administration of Owelle Rochas Okorocha, with additional campuses in Orlu, Ehime Mbano, and Amaimo for the Owerri zone. However, while campuses in Orlu and Okigwe zones were operational, the Owerri zone campus remained undeveloped until Uzodimma assumed office.

In a move seemingly aimed at relocating the Imo Poly to his native Omuma, Governor Uzodimma transferred the nuclear campus from Umuagwo Ohaji to Omuma and established a University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (UAES), while retaining the Orlu and Ehime Mbano campuses.

Reports suggest a larger plan to abolish the Orlu and Ehime Mbano campuses, consolidating operations solely in Omuma. This initiative is reportedly championed by a lawmaker, with a proposed amendment to the Imo State Polytechnic Law number 15 of 2012 being considered by the Imo State House of Assembly.

The swift progression of the bill through first and second readings in the House indicates political maneuvering, with supporters suggesting that the goal is to centralize the Imo Poly’s operations for improved management efficiency.

However, achieving this vision may require amending the law to grant the governor the authority to designate Omuma as the sole location for the state-owned polytechnic. Advocates argue that a single-campus structure would streamline administrative processes and enhance operational effectiveness for the Imo Poly.

3,000 Members Resign As PDP Begins New Page Without Ihedioha In Imo

From Joshua Chibuzo Andrew

Despite the significant departure of members, including Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha, from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the party’s leadership in the state is actively working to restore equilibrium and chart a path forward.

As part of these efforts, a meeting was convened at the party’s office during the week to assess recent developments and strategize for the future.

Following the removal of the state chairman, Chief Charles Ugwu, an interim chairman, Chidi Dike, has been appointed to lead the party in an acting capacity, aiming to stabilize its operations.

In response to the loss of members, the PDP in Imo has initiated efforts to identify replacements for state, zonal, and local government area (LGA) officers, who have resigned in large numbers.

To commence the process of rebuilding the party in the wake of mass resignations, interim appointments will be made for ward, LGA, zonal, and state officers until formal elections are held in August, coinciding with the national party’s electoral procedures.

Furthermore, the party is leveraging media platforms, including social media and e-communications channels, to counteract the impact of Ihedioha’s departure and reassure the public about the party’s stability.

Newly appointed party officials, such as Hon Bede Ojimmadu, the financial secretary, and Mrs Aguwamba Esther, Acting State Woman Leader, recently appeared on a radio station in Owerri to address concerns and emphasize that there is no reason for alarm.

The Patty’s focus is on rebuilding the party structure and mitigating the repercussions of the mass resignations, demonstrating a commitment to overcoming challenges and fostering unity within its ranks.

It could be recalled that over three thousand members of the party have resigned, opposing the decision of the NWC for appointing caretaker leadership in the State.

A source revealed to our correspondent that Chief Ihedioha and his co- Political travelers are moving to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) where they already secured a deal three months ago.

Meanwhile, another source from the Labour Party revealed that Ihedioha is leading his team to the LP for a serious opposition to APC in the State, in preparation for his 2027 Imo Governorship interest.

This recent Political permutations in Imo is said to have stalled the appointment of Ihedioha’s Loyalists, the likes of Opuruozor Collins, Ray Emeana, Greg Nwadike and others who supported Uzodimma during his second term election.
