KAITA, Nigeria — Katsina State Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda has flagged off the distribution of 90,000 bags of 100kg assorted grains to vulnerable households across the state’s 34 Local Government Areas.
Speaking at the launch ceremony in Kaita Local Government Area on Wednesday, Governor Radda stated that the intervention forms part of a dual-track strategy combining immediate social welfare relief with long-term agricultural investments designed to strengthen regional food security.
The current phase follows earlier social interventions, including direct financial support to women micro-entrepreneurs and welfare distributions to 7,220 widows across the 361 political wards of Katsina State. State authorities had previously distributed an initial tranche of 90,000 bags of millet, maize, and guinea corn through Community Level Committees (CLCs).
Governor Radda issued strict directives to distribution task forces and local government authorities to maintain transparency and equity during allocation, warning against hoarding, diversion, or political favoritism. He noted that while grain distribution offers immediate relief against rising living costs, sustainable food security requires continuous public investment in irrigation infrastructure, solar-powered farm machinery, and subsidized agricultural inputs for rural farmers.
The event featured addresses from key administrative stakeholders:
- Community Development Programme (CDP): State Coordinator Kamaladden Kabir confirmed that CDP structures across all 361 wards will supervise logistics to ensure grains reach low-income families, elderly citizens, and persons living with disabilities.
- Ministry of Special Duties: Commissioner Hon. Zainab Musa Musawa confirmed that the approved relief package includes free distributions of maize, millet, sorghum, and rice state-wide.
- Local and Traditional Leadership: Kaita LGA Chairman Hon. Bello Lawal, APC State Chairman Dr. Bashir Gambo Saulawa, and the District Head of Kaita, Alhaji Yazeed Abdulkarim Kabir Usman, commended the administration’s grassroots focus and urged peaceful execution across all wards.
The flagging-off ceremony was attended by senior government officials, including Deputy Governor Hon. Faruk Lawal Jobe, Principal Private Secretary Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Turaji, and members of the Katsina State Executive Council.
