ABUJA, NIGERIA — A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Engineer Buba Galadima, has levied grave allegations against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming the party has launched a massive financial inducement scheme aimed at coercing opposition lawmakers and candidates to forfeit their election tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Galadima made the explosive claims during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time program, asserting that the ruling party is panicking over its election prospects and seeking to secure victories unopposed.
Cash-For-Tickets Operation Exposed In Abuja
According to Galadima, the ruling party has established an organized financial network to induce candidates contesting on opposition tickets to submit resignation letters and abandon their electoral ambitions.
He alleged that State House of Assembly candidates are being offered ₦50 million each to step aside, while candidates seeking election to the House of Representatives are being offered ₦200 million alongside brand-new luxury vehicles. Higher sums are reportedly allocated for senatorial and governorship positions.
“Every member of the House of Assembly who agrees to forfeit his ticket for the APC candidate is currently being given ₦50 million, and members of the House of Representatives will be given ₦200 million with a car,” Galadima stated.
Meeting With APC Leadership Alleged
Detailing the mechanics of the alleged payout, the NDC chieftain claimed that a female operative from Zamfara State is actively distributing funds from an Abuja hotel to opposition candidates who agree to step down.
Galadima alleged that the individual met directly with APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, to coordinate the forfeiture process.
“There is a lady from Zamfara State who is sharing the money in a hotel here in Abuja. In fact, she held a meeting about four days ago with the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, showing some candidates who have forfeited their right to contest the election. They wrote resignation letters and collected the money,” he added.
Mounting Concerns Over Electoral Integrity
Galadima warned that the desperate measures being deployed by the ruling party risk reducing the 2027 democratic contest to a commercial transaction before voters even get to the polls.
He argued that the intense panic within the APC stems from widespread public dissatisfaction over the administration’s performance, cautioning that no non-APC candidate is currently safe from political interference or financial inducement attempts.
