AWKA, NIGERIA — The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has raised the alarm over what it describes as a calculated plot by former Anambra State Governor and opposition leader, Mr. Peter Obi, to politically destroy the party that brought him into national prominence.

In a statement issued in Awka by the National Publicity Secretary of APGA, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, the party dismissed rumors of a political alliance or power-sharing arrangement with Obi’s platform, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), labeling such reports as false, unfounded, and manipulative.

APGA Accuses Obi Of Continuous Betrayal

Mazi Ejimofor Opara stated that it had become necessary to clarify issues regarding conspiracies aimed at weakening the party’s grassroots dominance in Anambra State and across the South-East, assuring members that such attempts would fail.

The party spokesperson questioned Obi’s political motives, noting that the former governor has consistently fielded opposition candidates against APGA in every electoral cycle since leaving its ranks.

“If Mr. Peter Obi so loved APGA, why has he fought so hard against APGA in every electoral cycle?” Ejimofor queried. “For every seat APGA is contesting, why does Mr. Peter Obi have a lineup of candidates waiting to push APGA away? APGA made Peter Obi, yet Peter Obi wants to destroy APGA. Why?”

No Power-Sharing Deal With NDC

Setting the record straight on political alignments, APGA declared that a vote for Peter Obi and his platform is a direct vote to kill APGA’s legacy in Nigerian politics.

Highlighting the party’s official position, Ejimofor outlined key points:

  • Pattern of Opposition: The party stated that since 2014, Obi’s mission has been to dismantle APGA, citing instances in 2017, 2021, and 2025 where he allegedly backed opposition structures to defeat APGA candidates while President Bola Ahmed Tinubu extended political goodwill to the party.
  • No Formal Alliance: APGA emphasized that no formal or informal consultation or agreement exists between APGA and the NDC for power-sharing, describing the NDC as a mere “Special Purpose Vehicle” compared to APGA’s standing as an established political party of record.
  • Support for Central Government: The party defended its collaboration with President Tinubu, noting that it aligns with APGA’s long-standing convention of working with the government at the center and acknowledging the current administration’s infrastructure delivery across the South-East region.

Call To Guard APGA’s Fortress

Urging party faithful and voters across Anambra State to remain vigilant, the APGA National Publicity Secretary warned against being misled by politicians who treat political platforms as disposable tools.

Reaffirming that Anambra State remains the undisputed stronghold of APGA, the party vowed to defend its political fortress and protect its legacy from external interference ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
