OWERRI / ABUJA, NIGERIA — AUGUST 31, 2026 — What was intended to be a solemn spiritual gathering in Imo State ended in a horrifying tragedy when an administrative crisis within the U.S. branch of Zion Ministry escalated into a fatal confrontation in Awommama, Oru East Local Government Area.
Mr. Chinweike Obiozor, the Maryland/DC USA Administrator of Zion Ministry and a relative of the late former Nigerian Ambassador to the United States and ex-Ohanaeze Ndigbo President, Ambassador George Obiozor, was confirmed dead following a violent altercation on Sunday.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Mr. Obiozor met his untimely demise shortly after participating in the 3-day grand closure of Zion Ministry’s 100-day fasting and prayer crusade at Zion City, Ngor Okpala, held from August 21 to August 23, 2026.

Investigation reveals that the violent clash was the culmination of long-simmering unrest within the ministry’s North American leadership. Ahead of the pilgrimage to Nigeria, severe factional infighting had reportedly gripped the American branches of the ministry.

Administrator for Zion Ministry, confronted Mr. Obiozor in Awommama. Accompanied by a group of women, Dr. Bealose directly challenged Mr. Obiozor regarding the lingering operational and financial mismanagement in the U.S. operations.
The encounter rapidly deteriorated from a verbal disagreement into a physical altercation. During the intense fracas, Dr. Bealose reportedly struck Mr. Obiozor on the head with a heavy stone. Mr. Obiozor sustained massive head injuries and tragically succumbed to his wounds on the same day before medical intervention could save him.

The sudden death of Mr. Obiozor has sent shockwaves through the local Awommama community, the diaspora membership of Zion Ministry, and the broader socio-cultural leadership in Imo State given the prominent lineage of the victim’s family.
Local community leaders and legal representatives have called on the Imo State Police Command to ensure a thorough, uncompromised homicide investigation into the circumstances leading to Mr. Obiozor’s death and to bring all persons involved in the assault to justice.
