A self-described whistleblower known as Hassan has alleged that Senator Shehu Buba Umar, who represents Bauchi South Senatorial District, facilitated the movement of associates of suspected terrorist kingpin Dogo Gide to Abuja for specialised military-style training — an allegation he says he will not pursue in court because, in his words, “Nigerian courts will favour him and his godfathers.”
Hassan, who has also gone by the names Hassan Husseini and Hassan Fulani, made the claim during a recent interview with social media influencer D English Alhaji. He said he possesses evidence, including a recording, that he believes could establish that individuals linked to Dogo Gide were brought to Abuja for training in areas including drone operations, sniping, and the use of machine guns. He named an individual he identified as Baba Ngida, described as a younger brother or associate of Dogo Gide, and another identified as Adam, whom he alleged was a personal assistant to Senator Buba at the National Assembly at the time. Hassan further alleged the individuals were accommodated in Abuja in connection with banditry-linked networks, and called on the Department of State Services and other security agencies to investigate.
Senator Buba’s response
Buba has strongly denied the allegations, describing them as false, malicious, and part of a coordinated political smear campaign by his opponents. According to the senator, Hassan was introduced to him in 2024 as an orphan seeking educational assistance; Buba said he helped enrol him in schools in Kaduna and provided further support, but that Hassan later abandoned his education, secretly recorded visitors at Buba’s residence while under his care, and eventually fled to Niger Republic, where he has continued making online broadcasts against the senator.
Buba has since petitioned the Inspector-General of Police over matters connected to the allegations. Reports indicate several suspects — accused of offences including criminal conspiracy, cyberstalking, criminal defamation, advance-fee fraud, and extortion — have been arrested and arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja, with the case’s next hearing scheduled for September 29, 2026. A separate fact-check by PRNigeria of an earlier viral video Hassan circulated, purportedly showing “bandit kingpins” at the senator’s residence, reportedly found that the footage combined unrelated clips and did not establish that the individuals shown were, in fact, bandits.

This is not Hassan’s first allegation against Buba; he has previously claimed, among other things, that the senator orchestrated the mass kidnapping of schoolchildren in Kaduna in 2023 and received a cut of the ransom paid. Buba has consistently denied all such claims and has pointed to the ongoing prosecution of individuals connected to the disinformation campaign as evidence the allegations are part of a coordinated effort against him.
Hassan’s claim comes just a day after Buba voluntarily submitted himself to the DSS, police, and Defence Intelligence Agency for investigation over the broader set of banditry-related allegations, and follows earlier calls for scrutiny from Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and the Igbo Community Association of the FCT. Neither the DSS nor any other security agency has publicly confirmed opening an investigation into this specific claim as of this writing.
