BAGUDO, KEBBI STATE — SEPTEMBER 20, 2026 — Panic has gripped several border communities in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State following the reported murder of the village head of Lafagu, Alhaji Sa’idu Mujeli, by suspected armed bandits.
The community leader, widely known as Sarkin Lafagu, was killed on Saturday morning during a coordinated assault by armed men on the rural settlement.
Mass Displacement Across Border Communities
The assassination of the traditional leader has triggered widespread fear, prompting a wave of displacement across the Kaoje-Lafagu axis.
Scores of residents, including women and children, have deserted their ancestral homes, fleeing toward Bagudo town and surrounding urban areas for safety. Local sources indicate that the attack is part of a broader surge in violent incursions targeting rural settlements and traditional institutions across the region.
Demands for Justice and Security Intervention
Community representatives and family members have expressed grief and frustration over the declining security situation, noting that multiple residents and traditional leaders in the area have fallen victim to recurring armed raids.
Calling on the Kebbi State Government and federal security agencies to intervene urgently, community stakeholders demanded a heightened military and police presence in Bagudo LGA to restore order and bring the perpetrators to justice.
As of press time, the Kebbi State Police Command has not issued an official public statement regarding the murder or the displacement of residents from the affected communities.
