ABUJA, NIGERIA — The former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and two-term Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has fiercely debunked viral social media reports suggesting his exit from the ruling party. Dismissing the claims as a “calculated campaign of misinformation,” Ganduje declared that he remains firmly rooted in the APC, colorfully noting that he is not a nomadic politician or a “vulture flying from one tree to another” in search of political convenience.
The pushback follows the rapid circulation of digital posters across various social media platforms alleging that the veteran politician had defected to the New Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a formal statement issued by his Chief of Staff and former Kano State Commissioner for Information, Comrade Muhammad Garba, Ganduje described the posters as the handiwork of desperate political mischief-makers. According to the statement, the visual campaign was intentionally engineered to mislead the public, foment artificial anxiety among APC faithful, and trigger needless political speculation within the national arena.
A Question of Logic and Loyalty
Framing the rumor as both factually baseless and ideologically bankrupt, Ganduje’s camp argued that a defection makes little sense given his high-profile trajectory within the ruling party. The statement emphasized that Ganduje has remained unwavering in his political convictions, having climbed to the pinnacle of the party’s internal structure as its National Chairman.
“It is not only false but also illogical for anyone to insinuate that Dr. Ganduje has joined the NDC,” the statement read, stressing that the claim lacks any sound political or logical foundation.
Ganduje used the opportunity to reinforce the status of the ruling party, describing the APC as Nigeria’s largest and most formidable political bloc. He noted that the party is continuously consolidating its nationwide acceptance under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Legal Action Looming
Beyond mere denial, the statement took a sharper defensive turn, revealing that the individuals behind the production and digital distribution of the fake posters have already been tracked down. Ganduje’s team issued a stern ultimatum to the perpetrators, warning that a failure to immediately withdraw the defamatory materials and halt their dissemination would result in swift and rigorous legal action.
The former governor urged APC members, loyal supporters, and the general public to disregard the posters in their entirety, reinforcing that they bear no reflection of his current political standing or future intentions.
Eyes on the ‘Renewed Hope’ Agenda
Instead of planning an exit, the statement concluded by reaffirming Ganduje’s active commitment to collaborating with President Tinubu and the APC hierarchy. His focus, the dispatch noted, remains on consolidating the milestones of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and fortifying the party’s structures ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.
Stakeholders and media houses have been urged to rely strictly on official communication channels from Dr. Ganduje’s office or the appropriate organs of the APC for authentic updates regarding his political engagements.
