Concerned citizens of Amichi in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State have petitioned Governor Chukwuma Soludo over the alleged alteration of the caretaker committee list for the Amichi Development Union (ADU) after its submission to the state government for official approval and publication.
The concerned citizens, in an open letter to the governor, alleged that the Chairman and Secretary selected by the ADU General Assembly were removed from the list before its publication and replaced with persons they claimed were not chosen by the town union. They are consequently asking Governor Soludo to intervene by nullifying the said adulterated and published list, reinstating the original Committee members selected and endorsed by the General Assembly, and by ordering an internal administrative review into how the submitted list was allegedly compromised before publication.

OPEN LETTER TO SOLUDO.
PETITION AGAINST THE UNAUTHORIZED ALTERATION OF THE DULY SELECTED CARETAKER COMMITTEE LIST FOR AMICHI DEVELOPMENT UNION (ADU)
We, the concerned citizens of the Amichi Development Union (ADU), write to formally bring to your attention a grave irregularity regarding the published list of the ADU Caretaker Committee, and to respectfully request your immediate intervention to restore the resolution of the General Assembly.
Amichi is comprised of four constituent quarters: Okpala, EzeUdene, Afube, and Ebenasa. The apex organization representing the entire community is the Amichi Development Union (ADU), the same central authority that some group claimed selected H.R.H. Igwe Oforbuike Ezeoke, who was subsequently recognized and certified by the Anambra State Government.
While the other three quarters remain united, Okpala quarter is split into three separate groups, Ebenator Okpala Development Union, Okpala Descendants Union, and Amichi Community Association.
The four constituent communities are represented in the registered trustees of Amichi Development Union by one person each. The general assembly which is the supreme authority of the Union are twenty delegates from each quarter that must ratify all decisions/affairs of the Union.
Legal and Constitutional Context:
Following the interlocutory ruling delivered on July 21, 2026, which ordered that the status quo be maintained, explicitly restrained the Plaintiffs and the 3rd Defendant, the PG from assuming the office of the President-General (PG), and barred the conduct of elections into the office of the PG by the registered trustees or whosoever, a leadership vacuum emerged as the tenure lapsed on August 6th, 2026.
In strict adherence to the ADU Constitution, which mandates the Registered Trustees to assume the management of the Union during a crisis, the Trustees convened an emergency General Assembly meeting to chart a lawful path forward that respects the judicial subsisting order.
General Assembly Resolution and Submission:
At the duly convened General Assembly meeting held on August 21, 2026, the members unanimously selected a Caretaker Committee to manage the administrative affairs of the Union. The designated Chairman, Secretary and other members were chosen through due process and with the full consensus of the community structure.
Pursuant to the applicable administrative protocols, the official list of the selected Caretaker Committee members, accompanied by the minutes of the General Assembly meeting, was formally submitted to Commissioner’s office on August 24, 2026, for executive consent and official publication.
The Gravamen of Our Petition:
It was with profound shock and disappointment that the leadership and members of ADU discovered upon the official release of the list that the names of the Chairman and Secretary democratically designated by the General Assembly had been removed and replaced with unauthorized, imported individuals who were never selected by the town union.
Interestingly, Committee members boycotted the inaugural meeting convened by the imposed Caretaker Committee Chairman on September 2, 2026.
This further points to the lack of consensus surrounding the composition and leadership of the published Caretaker Committee being imposed on the people, and further demonstrates the urgent need for the state government to review the circumstances surrounding the list.
Speculations abound that the Commissioner might have allegedly accepted large sums of money to aid and abet splinter group from Okpala quarter who registered the ACA and Okpala Descendants Union as entities. Notably, this same group participated in the general assembly meetings and even had representatives serving on the Caretaker Committee.
This arbitrary substitution violates the constitutional will of Amichi town: It subverts the clear resolution of the General Assembly convened by the legitimate custodians of the Union.
Introducing non-consensual figures outside the established democratic process undermines our constitution and potentially exposes the administration to legal friction.
It also endangers community peace: Imposing external or non-designated leadership on the town union threatens social cohesion and public order within the town.
Prayers/Demands:
Mr. Governor, in light of the foregoing, concerned citizens, on behalf of the General Assembly and the entire citizenry of Amichi, respectfully pray that your office:
Nullify the altered list currently released by the Ministry
Restate and formally confirm the original list of the Caretaker Committee as selected by the General Assembly and submitted by the Registered Trustees, specifically reinstating the duly designated Chairman and Secretary.
Order an Internal Administrative Review into how the authentic list was compromised prior to publication, to preserve the integrity of the Ministry.
Mr. Governor, we trust in your commitment to justice, good governance, and the rule of law, and we remain confident that you will act swiftly to correct this anomaly and preserve peace in Amichi.
