ASABA, NIGERIA — The Delta State High Court sitting in Asaba became the epicenter of a brewing judicial showdown on Wednesday, as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Usman Nuhu and four of his colleagues formally pleaded not guilty to charges tied to the controversial extra-judicial killing of 28-year-old rising musician, Oghenemine Ogidi, popularly known as OG Million.

The high-stakes arraignment follows a wave of public outrage over the April 26, 2026 incident, which occurred in the bustling commercial hub of Effurun, within the Uvwie Local Government Area.

Grim Details Confront Defendants in Court

The prosecution presented a chilling account of the musician’s final moments, alleging that OG Million was already restrained and completely defenseless on the ground when ASP Nuhu shot him at close range.

While ASP Nuhu faces the primary, heavyweight charge of murder, the remaining four officers on the scene are being prosecuted for their failure to intervene or protect the victim. Arraigned alongside Nuhu were:

  • ASP Owoloko Daurou Pamo (Negligent acts causing harm)
  • ASP Okoh Kelechi (Negligent acts causing harm)
  • Inspector Goodluck Kingsley (Negligent acts causing harm)
  • Inspector Omonigho Ahweyevu (Negligent acts causing harm)

Stepping up into the dock one after the other, all five law enforcement officers maintained a unified front, pleading not guilty to the respective charges leveled against them.

Delta State Government Takes Control

Recognizing the volatile nature of the case and the intense public scrutiny surrounding police accountability, the Delta State Government has taken a direct, hands-on approach to the prosecution.

Speaking immediately after the court session, the Delta State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole (SAN), reassured the public that the state’s legal team is fully armed with the necessary evidence to ensure a meticulous trial.

“The state is fully prepared to prosecute this case to its logical conclusion,” Ohwovoriole stated, while appealing to aggrieved youths and the general public to maintain order. “We urge everyone to remain calm and allow the judicial process to take its course without interference.”

Nationwide Spotlight on July 14

Presiding judge, Justice M. Nduka, has adjourned the matter to July 14, 2026, a date that will officially mark the commencement of the trial.

With the judicial machinery now in full motion, civil society groups, human rights activists, and the Nigerian entertainment community are expected to descend on the Asaba court gallery. For many, this trial is seen not just as a quest for answers for the Ogidi family, but as a critical litmus test for police reform, accountability, and the integrity of the judiciary in Delta State.
