ABUJA — The Federal Government has officially declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s International Workers’ Day.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who extended the government’s congratulations to Nigerian workers across the country. In a statement released on Wednesday, the Minister praised the nation’s workforce for their resilience, dedication, and invaluable contributions to national development.
Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the government remains committed to improving the welfare of all citizens and creating an environment where hard work is rewarded. He urged workers to remain productive and continue supporting the administration’s efforts to stabilize the economy.
International Workers’ Day, also known as May Day, is celebrated globally to honor the struggles and achievements of the labor movement. With the declaration, all government offices, banks, and major institutions are expected to remain closed on Friday.
