AWKA — Tension erupted on the main campus of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra State, following a violent confrontation in which a crowd of students mobbed, assaulted, and stripped an academic staff member accused of attempting to sexually assault a female student.
According to eyewitness accounts and viral videos circulating across social platforms, the incident occurred after female students raised an alarm, alleging that the lecturer attempted to force himself on an undergraduate within campus premises. The outcry attracted nearby students, who quickly intervened, confronted the academic, and subjected him to jungle justice before campus security personnel could intervene.

The identity of the lecturer and the victim have not been formally released by university authorities, while the health condition of the assaulted academic remains unconfirmed as of Saturday evening.
University management and the Anambra State Police Command have not issued an official statement regarding the incident. However, student rights advocates and civic groups in Awka have reiterated calls for the university administration to establish clear, transparent reporting channels for sexual misconduct, while cautioning students against taking the law into their own hands.
