Human rights activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has publicly taken aim at Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, after the singer reportedly blocked him on X (formerly Twitter).
Taking to his social media page, Sowore expressed satisfaction that his previous criticisms had gotten under the musician’s skin, while calling out Davido and his family over their political associations and governance in Osun State.
“You Can’t Endorse Failure”
Sowore’s comments stem from Davido’s past interactions and public appearances with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as his association with the political movement surrounding the current administration.
In his post, Sowore argued that public figures cannot openly support political leaders and then distance themselves from the real-world impact of those endorsements on everyday citizens.
“I am pretty happy the message sank in very well, to the point that you had to block me here,” Sowore wrote. “You can’t endorse a failure like Tinubu, grin from ear to ear in meetings with him, power your circle with the so-called #cityboys, and then pretend not to understand the consequences of that political choice.”
Focus on Osun State Governance
Sowore did not stop at the singer’s ties to the federal government. He also turned his attention to Davido’s uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, accusing the family of treating public resources carelessly while millions of Nigerians struggle through severe economic hardships.
Sowore urged the Adeleke family and the All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government to face the harsh economic reality facing ordinary citizens across the country.
A Growing Divide
The online friction highlights the growing tension between political activists and high-profile celebrities who navigate political circles. As economic pressures mount across Nigeria, public figures who associate with politicians are increasingly coming under intense scrutiny from citizens and opposition figures demanding accountability.
Neither Davido nor representatives for Governor Ademola Adeleke have issued an official response to Sowore’s latest statements.
