ABUJA – President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs. The move follows the resignation of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
The appointment, announced on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, marks a significant shift in the country’s diplomatic leadership. Odumegwu-Ojukwu previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and is expected to bring significant experience to the ministry’s international engagements.
In a related development, the President nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, pending Senate confirmation. Enikanolaiye is a career diplomat with over three decades of service, having held strategic positions including Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and various international postings in London, New Delhi, and Addis Ababa.
According to the presidency, these appointments are part of efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy to enhance efficiency and strengthen global partnerships. President Tinubu has charged the new appointees to prioritize national interests, advance economic diplomacy, and look after the welfare of Nigerians in the diaspora.
The reshuffle comes as Nigeria looks to expand its global influence and attract foreign investment to boost economic growth.
