She also averred that the defamation caused her so much damage, trauma, ill health and reduced her standing and recognition in the global society bearing in mind that she had attained international reputation.

She claimed that the publication in print, electronic and social media as well national dailies by the police against her person had lowered her estimation in the eyes of right thinking members of society.

“Contrary to the defamatory statement in the print and electronic media as well as online media, I never assaulted my former orderly neither did I instruct anyone else to do so.

“Such an incident never took place in my house as there are CCTV cameras all over the street surroundings to debunk the claim.

“Contrary to the allegations, I have never asked the former orderly to carry out any domestic chores as sophisticated robot machines like Alexa are installed in the palace.

“I was never a suspect but a victim of a frame up by the defendants,’’ she said.

She said the amount was for defamation, shame, ridicule, harassment, trauma, humiliation and public embarrassment meted out to her by the police.

She also asked the court for an order directing the defendants to tender an unreserved public apology in all print and electronic media.

‘’An order of court directing the defendants to issue a press statement retracting the assertions they made earlier.

In a show of appreciation, Governor Uzodimma thanked the leadership of Okigwe zone for their thoughtfulness in finding him worthy of the honour and promised not to disappoint their reasonable expectation.

The event which took place at the Okigwe Township Stadium attracted the who is who from the zone that comprise six local government areas – Okigwe, Onuimo, Isiala Mbano, Ehime Mbano, Ihitte Uboma and Obowo.

Governor Uzodimma was crowned the Eze Chukwumere Eze Okigwe ( King crowned by God) by all the traditional rulers from the six local government areas that make up Okigwe zone.

In his opening remarks, Chairman of the occasion, Prof Maurice Iwu said that Governor Uzodimma has demonstrated in no small measures his love for Okigwe zone and that no reception held in his honour could compensate for the good things the people of Okigwe zone have received from the governor since he mounted the saddle.

Prof. Iwu said that the reception was more or less an opportunity for his people to thank the governor for his love for Okigwe zone and to reassure him that they are with him in his journey to reposition Imo State for good.

The former Governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim commended the governor for being a friend of Okigwe zone, specifically saying that “Okigwe supports Governor Uzodimma 100 percent and anywhere he goes, Okigwe will go.”

Other speakers from the six Councils in Okigwe who spoke in appreciation of the good gesture their people have received from Governor Uzodimma included, Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Emeka Nduka, Senator Frank Ibezim, the APC senatorial candidate for Okigwe zone, Hon. Patrick Ndubueze, the Vice Chancellor of University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Prof. C.C. Eze, the Anglican Bishop of Isi-Mbano, Bishop Godson Ukanwa, the Head of Service, Imo State, Mr. Raymond Ucheoma, former Speaker, Rt. The Anglican Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev. Dr. Onuoha prayed for peace both in Okigwe zone, Imo State, South East and Nigeria as a whole.

Earlier, the Secretary to the Imo State Government, Chief Cosmas Iwu, had reminded the audience that Governor Uzodimma was the best thing to happen to Imo and that since he came on board, Imo State has witnessed unprecedented development due to the commitment, passion and sincerity of purpose of the administration of Governor Uzodimma.

In a welcome address presented by Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, Governor Uzodimma was lauded for being kind to Okigwe people but was, however, reminded that the zone does not have electricity while other infrastructure that adorn Owerri and Orlu zones are said to be lacking in the area.

Rt. Hon. Duru, for instance, urged the Governor to consider bringing the Faculty of Social Sciences or Law to Okigwe zone since the Faculty of Engineering that was originally proposed has not worked out.

” We need a functional general hospital in Ehime Mbano to improve health care delivery…. Okigwe is the least developed zone in Imo State. If not for the problem of funding, we would have requested the establishment of Okigwe Development Commission to bail us out of underdevelopment,” the address noted.

Regardless, the people said they are happy with Governor Uzodimma and his leadership style, adding, “we hereby declare that we stand with the Governor in whatever decision he chooses to do in the years ahead.”

The highpoint of the reception was the conferment of chieftaincy title of Eze Chukwumere Eze Okigwe by the traditional rulers while the Governor’s wife, Barr (Mrs.) Chioma Uzodimma, was honoured with the Lolo Eze Chukwumere Eze Okigwe title.

In his remarks, Governor Uzodimma told the Okigwe leaders that he is not only one of them, but will stop at nothing to develop the area as doing so would give him joy.

Governor Uzodimma specially regretted the harm insecurity was causing Okigwe in particular and Imo State in general and assured the mammoth crowd of indigenes, friends and well wishers who turned up for the reception that going forward, the situation is going to change for good.

This is contained in a release signed by Alhaji Shuaibu Gara, Special adviser to Gov. Inuwa Yahaya on information management and strategy and made available to newsmen in Gombe on Sunday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that a journalist working with Jewel FM Gombe, alongside his guest, were arrested and detained by the Police after hosting a programme.

“What we know is that the government complained to the police that we monitored a 30-minute radio programme where a guest was invited to a political programme.

“And in the programme, the guest alleged that the government spent N4 billion to fence the government House.

“We presented to the police our records for the entire state budget for maintenance of all public buildings between 2019 and 2022. To give him fair hearing we equally wanted the police to ask him to provide his evidence.

“How can someone say that we spent over N4 billion just to fence Government House alone.

“When confronted by investigators, the suspect does not even know how many millions make up N1 billion,” he said.

He further challenged the opposition to provide proof that any journalist was arrested, adding that the government only tabled a complaint to the police against the radio guest who made unfounded allegations against the government.

“Gombe state government did not order the arrest of any journalist, anyone who claims that a journalist was arrested, let the journalist show us his accreditation by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ),” he said.

Gara further appealed to the public who wants to get any information from the government to follow appropriate channel.

The Currency Of Life And The Leadership Question – By Abiodun Komolafe

In one of his New Year sermons, Pastor Adeniyi Ajayi of the Gospel Promotion Outreach, Ori Oke Baba Abiye, Ede in Osun State numerated ‘The Currency of Life’ as ‘time, money, knowledge and relationship.’ According to the cleric, while “time is money and should not be wasted, wisdom entails the correct application of knowledge.” Also, while “time and knowledge bring money, time and money yield knowledge. On the whole, “money and knowledge create and, ultimately, save time.”

“Relationship can get something for a man without having to spend a dime! The evil ones can waste one’s time; thus wasting one’s life.” Taken together, “whatever happens to one’s time happens to one’s life.” Therefore, knowing how to “organize one’s time as well as manage one’s money is important in a race of life.”

Without being immodest, I also share Pastor Ajayi’s views! Take for instance, when the people talk about leadership in Nigeria, they sometimes forget that ‘the wrong we see are symptoms of a deeper root cause of an ailment’ and that it is not just the leadership but also the prototype of our leadership that is fraught with flaws. And when a prototype is designed to fail, shifting the responsibility of that failure to the leadership can be likened to abandoning the object for the shadow. Again, it is as if we are no longer taking cognizance of the fact that this ‘mere geographical expression’ is a peculiar country, inhabited by peculiar people and that it is from the pool of this population that we draw the willing and available individuals who eventually rule the mass of the people. Without doubt, ours is a country which looks like a ship in a vast ocean without a rudder. And, as we are aware, a rudderless ship is bound to surrender its destiny to the dictate of the waves.

‘Idalu n’iselu, bi a ti n se nile yii, eewo ibomiran ni’ (The constitution for administering any place must be indigenous to its cultural foundation). If we have agreed that “whosoever desires the office of a Bishop … must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach …”, then, whosoever wants to be, say, a governor in Nigeria must not be a criminal, must be kind to all without exception, and must not be self-centred or nepotistic. Once these requirements are there, we ought not to be complaining about leadership in Nigeria. After all, no leader comes to power without knowing what he or she signed for!

Remember the British system of government where, deliberately, an intending leader must come from a cadre of the people! Of a fact, it prefixes certain social structures in the society for a man to emerge as a Prime Minister in England. For example, a man who must aspire to hold such a high office must be somebody who can debate anybody, anywhere in the world; and must have been tested. To that extent, every member of the British Parliament is a potential prime minister.

To be frank, the fundamentals of public administration in Nigeria are not rooted in wisdom. In other words, there is no sound fundamental philosophy. People just come into government, run it the way they like and leave it even worse than they met it. Contrary to the vision of the man who turned Dubai to the wonders of the 21st century, there’s no hardcore pattern that is followed by aspiring leaders in Nigeria with regard to how the government is run. Through the systemic understanding of the powers of the state, governance is also about aggregating the people’s views such that, by the time it comes out with a policy, it will go a long way in addressing the yearnings of the people.

It is because our leaders do not have a sure pattern of what to do that they mess up in government. At the end of the day, they would have wasted the four or eight years – as it were – as prescribed by the constitution. Besides, they would have also succeeded in wasting the time of the citizens as a whole. For instance, a citizen with a hope that a particular government would address a particular matter of his or her life would wait for eight years only to have the matter unaddressed even as there is no assurance that the next government will even think about it.

Obafemi Awolowo! Ahmadu Bello! Nnamdi Azikiwe! We need to bear in mind that politicians are not necessarily leaders; for, while leaders are always conscious of the fact that they are leading a people and that it behoves them to strive to build a future for those they are leading, politicians are only thinking of how their pockets can be lined with the people’s commonwealth. So, when a supposed leader comes with a moribund idea, of course, the people will just be running upandan, without being able to clearly define anything. So, such ‘leaders’ are most likely to waste the four or eight years constitutionally approved for them to govern. From independence till date, Nigeria’s problems remain largely unaddressed! The politicians are just using excuses as smokescreens to deceive the people. In our fatted clime, democracy has been misconstrued for the will of ‘Mr President’ or ‘Mr Governor!’ And that’s the issue! It’s an unending circle; and it will just be repeating itself until the people come together.

Of course, it is not as if Nigerians are daft! If somebody like the inimitable Awolowo could think of establishing the first television station in Africa; Liberty Stadium, Cocoa Board and many others, by now, his descendants ought to be thinking of accessing the moon, because the thinking should be on how to be better than their forefathers. But, here we are, without our being better than our forebears. And that’s a shame! In Osun for instance, the State Broadcasting Corporation came long before ‘Channels Television.’ Now, the difference between the two organisations is clear! Even ‘Rave FM’, which came into the business only yesterday, has continued to make waves while the state-owned Radio Station is almost becoming a distraught, disorganized and laughable news station.

Right from the beginning of the Fourth Republic, observers were of the opinion that Bisi Akande came with his own dream which, from all indications, successive governments did not buy into. So, for Osun, it was always a case of ‘start-all-over-again’, each time a new government took over! By the time Olagunsoye Oyinlola was being booted out of office on November 26, 2010, he was in such a hurry to leave ‘Bola Ige House’ that he forgot to drop his bag of dreams (and that’s if he ever had any). So, there was no dream in place for a Joseph to interpret for Rauf Aregbesola, his successor in office. ‘Oranmiyan’ also came in with his own ‘Government Unusual’, which the immediate past Governor Gboyega Oyetola did not embrace. So, the ‘State of the Virtuous’ was observably fated! Now, Ademola Adeleke is in the saddle with his long cap, dancing, histrionically; and banning everything ‘bannable.’ So, where lies growth in the pattern of development in Osun since the time of Akande? One can only pray the ‘Dancing Senator’ changed his ways! Otherwise, that’s how things will continue until he, too, finds his way out of government.

May the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, grant us peace in Nigeria!

Ekweremadu: EFCC Should Be Hiding In Shame – Ohanaeze

It could be recalled that Justice Inyang Ekwo had while vacating the order, said the Court discovered that it was fraudulently obtained by the EFCC.

Reacting, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youths, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike said the EFCC should hide its face in shame.

He said the latest order of the court was a vindication of its earlier stand that the EFCC was carrying out a vendetta on Ekweremadu merely because he is an Igbo man.

“How else can one explain a situation where the same EFCC that wrote the United Kingdom Court against the release of Ekweremadu, sneaked into a Federal High Court in Nigeria and asked the lawmaker to show why his properties should not be forfeited.

“It was the height of wickedness and rascality by an agency of government.

“This is why we commend the Judge for toeing the path of justice. The judgement has put to rest the hatchet job done by the EFCC against Ekweremadu whose only sin is the fact that he is an Igbo man,” he said.

Okwu added that “the EFCC should right now be hiding its face in shame for even initiating such a process that was not only illegal but against natural justice.

“We expect that for the EFCC to purge itself of that dance of shame, it should withdraw the letter to the United Kingdom Court.”

By Izunna Okafor, Awka

A concerned citizen has raised alarm over thousands of Permanent Voter’s Card (PVCs) yet to be collected by their owners in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

It was gathered that the uncollected PVCs, numbering over 2500 belong to residents who vote in about 28 polling units in the community, but the owners are nowhere to be found, while the deadline for PVC collection, as was given by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is fast approaching.

According to a video currently trending on the social media, the INEC official in charge of distribution of the PVCs usually waits at the collection center at Oko Ward 2 all day long without seeing anyone showing up to pick his card.

When interviewed, he revealed that the yet-to-be-colleccted PVCs belong to voters who cast their votes at College Primary School School, Eze Ene, Agu Ayo, Mgbala Hall, Open Space Health Centre Oko, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Perm. Site, Main Gate, Second Gate, Ihengwu Hall, among others.

A concerned citizen of the community who did not reveal his identity called on the owners of the cards to hasten up to pick up their cards, while also urging residents to please spread the message and inform everyone who votes at Oko Ward 2 to go check their PVC.

As a form of motivation, the good fellow also pledged to give ₦500 transport allowance to everyone who goes to the center to collect his PVC.

Recall that INEC had previously said it would end the PVC collection on 22 January, 2023 having started the process on 12 December, 2022.

But after deliberation recently at the Commission’s headquarters, the Commissioner for Voter Education, Festus Okoye, announced a new deadline for the PVC collection.

In a statement he released on the same day, Mr Okoye said the PVC collection now ends on 29 January.
