What could be best described as pandemonium, tension and confusion erupted at the Peak Castle Hotel in Awka, Anambra State capital, over the weekend, as a cultural gathering organized by members of the Kegites Club degenerated into chaos following a forceful disruption by operatives of Udo Ga-Achị security outfit, triggering panic among participants, guests and fun seekers.
The event, tagged “1st Conference, Inauguration & World Gyration,” was being held by the Kegite group identified as the “Supreme Anambra Hemisphere” when operatives reportedly stormed the venue and forcefully disrupted proceedings
This was corroborated by videos from the scene currently trending on social media showing where the Club’s members were dancing and celebrating in the event hall shortly before the invasion by the security operatives. Later videos from the event, however, show the participants, guests and other fun seekers in the hotel scampering in different directions as security operatives stormed the venue, firing gunshots, destroying property, dispersing the gathering, and physically assaulting, bullying and harassing some participants while also videoing them as they ran for safety.
Although the circumstances surrounding the incident still remain sketchy as of the time of filing this report, sources have linked the incident to the lingering internal crisis and factionalization within the Kegite group, as the Club has reportedly splintered into multiple factions both nationally and within Anambra State, leading to competing claims of legitimacy and leadership.
It was also alleged that members of the “Supreme Anambra Hemisphere” have accused a rival faction, identified as the “Comradic Anambra Hemisphere,” of instigating the disruption by allegedly petitioning the Udo Ga-Achị security operatives and facilitating their invasion of the event venue, under the claim and allegation that the activity was cult-ralated.
Findings indicate that the recent internal crisis within the Kegites Club in Anambra State dates back to mid-2025, when the previously unified Anamenuebonyi Hemisphere (Anambra-Enugu-Ebonyi structure) of the Club divided, leading to the breakaway and emergence of different hemispheres and competing leadership blocs. Since then, the rivalry has reportedly intensified as different groups seek recognition and expansion, resulting in the rapid creation of new chapters and increased competition for influence within the state.
The situation reportedly escalated in recent months with the formation of new factions, including the “Supreme Anambra Hemisphere,” which convened the disrupted event as part of efforts to consolidate its structure and identity. The event was to be their first conference and inauguration before a rival faction reportedly petitioned and used the Udo Ga-Achị operatives to disrupt the event under the allegation that they were indulging in cult-ralated activities.
The incident has continued to draw criticism from concerned stakeholders, including members of the Supreme Comradium Kegites Club International, who condemned the disruption and described the development as a violation of cultural space and peaceful assembly.
In a statement shared their social media handles, the Supreme Comradium Kegites Club International condemned and decried the reports of violence, destruction of property, and alleged assault on members, stressing that cultural gatherings should be protected rather than being subjected to forceful interruption.
The group further called for accountability while also urging all parties to embrace dialogue, peace, and unity, in line with the cultural values the Club is known for.
This reporter, Izunna Okafor, gathered that the invasion and disruption of Kegites Club’s event is coming just months after the Anambra State Government placed restrictions on activities of the Kegites Club in the state’s higher institutions over concerns relating to cultism.
In one of the restriction letters, addressed to the Provost of the Anambra State Polytechnic, Mgbakwu, and dated October 10, 2025, the then Senior Special Assistant to the Governor (SSA) on Security and Anticultism, Hon. Kingsley Ezika, wrote: “I am writing to bring to your attention, a pressing concern regarding Kegite Club activities in Anambra State Polytechnic, Mgbakwu. As you are aware, the Anambra State Government has enacted the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025, prohibiting unauthorized groups and cultism.
“In line with Articles 6 to 8 of the Anambra State Anticultism Law, we urge you to restrict Kegite Club activities within the institution without government, Nigeria Police Force, and Department of State Services approval. Allowing such groups could compromise student safety.
“A kind request is made that you: Dissolve existing Kegite Club groups or chapters; Prohibit Kegite Club activities, meetings, or initiations on campus; Monitor student activities to prevent clandestine operations
“Those claiming to be the Kegites known to the institution (if any) should be directed to come for profiling with the police and the Department of State Services, before reporting to the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security for documentation. Anambra State Government prioritizes citizen safety, including the safety of students. Educational institutions should be sanctuaries for learning, free from unauthorized gatherings or cultism.

As of the time of this publication on the disruption of Kegites Club’s event in Awka by the Udo Ga-Achị operatives, there has been no official statement from the Anambra State Government or security agencies clarifying the circumstances surrounding the operation.
Efforts by this reporter, Izunna Okafor, to get the reactions of the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Homeland Security, Mr. Ken Emeakayi, proved abortive as he did not respond to his call and the message of inquiry sent to him as at the press time.
Meanwhile, the incident has continued to generate reactions across social media, with many calling for a thorough investigation to ascertain the facts, ensure accountability, and prevent a recurrence of such disruptions in the future, especially in Anambra State where Governor Soludo is working hard to build a liveable and prosperous homeland where people can live, work, and enjoy.
