Rivers 2023: Wike’s Ceaseless Attacks On Amaechi, APC, Signals His Downfall

… Asking Rivers People to Vote a candidate Wanted by EFCC and ICPC in the Midst of Reasonable Candidates Like Pst. Tonye Cole, an International figure; Magnus Abe, a Notable  Personality; Dawari George, a Composite Gentleman with the Fear of God, Dumo a respected Business Mogul is Misleading, Embarrassing on the Collective Sensibility of Rivers Electorates.

Contrary to his new year resolution never to respond to Gov. Wike’s tedious loquacity and pointless repetitious rambling, erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP) and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze has reacted to the Governor over his unwarranted verbal attack on his predecessor and former Nigeria’s Transportation Minister, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

According to the party Chief, his rule for the new year on Wike’s customary garrulousness has an exception and does not apply to situations where his logorrheic infection extends to former Governor Amaechi whom he described as Wike’s destiny helper, as keeping quiet in such circumstance may infer that the out-going Governor is right in his falsehood.

Recall that a few days back, Gov. Wike, in a public glare took a swipe at Amaechi by accusing the former Minister of frustrating his efforts to do a road in his (Amaechi’s) mother’s village. According to Wike, “Amaechi Does Not Want Me To Construct Road In His Mother’s Village, He’s A Bad Child”.

In a statement made available to media houses in Port Harcourt, Eze said such statement credited to Governor Wike is rooted in bad politics and campaign of calumny with the target to smear the image of the former Minister and Governor whose legacies in modern development has carved a niche for him and permanently inscribed his name in the hearts of men.

The party Chief said Wike, in his confused state has turned himself into a political clown and has gained notoriety in dishing contents and creating comic monologues for entertainment on daily basis and should no longer be taken seriously on issues of public concern. One would have loved to hear the Governor explain in detail how former Governor Amaechi made attempts by himself, through agents or privies to stop the state government from constructing any road anywhere in the state as alleged.

In another fora, Wike stated that, “in view of the forthcoming 2023 general elections, the soul and strength of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have departed, leaving the carcass and therefore, cannot get any electoral support from Rivers electorates.”

He made this assertion at the Mgbuodohia Community Primary School Premises, the venue of the flag-off of the construction of Mgbuodohia Road in Rumuolumeni Town of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) on Tuesday, January 03, 2022.

Wike went further to warn Rivers state about APC: He urged the people of Rivers State to be wary of the APC governorship candidate, Tonye Cole, who he said is being fronted by Amaechi because they do not mean well for the State.

Responding, Eze said if APC has lost all electoral value as peddled by Wike why then did he and his party take the Rivers APC and her candidates to court in a plethora of lawsuits seeking their nullification and exclusion from the ballots? If the APC has got no electoral

value as alleged by Wike, why has he been begging to join and support the APC Presidential Candidate, Bola Tinubu? This simply exposes Wike as a drowning and confused politician who has lost touch with reality.

Gov. Wike is not directly contesting any election in 2023 but is hellbent on installing a stooge who will fulfill his third term bid; to conceal details of the manifest corruption that has pervaded public offices in the state under his watch as Governor. Rivers people are waiting for the deal day to show them the way out.

For Gov. Wike to have the temerity to ask Rivers people to vote for his stooge, wanted by the anti-graft agencies, clearly shows not only his insensitivity but misleading thought that Rivers State and her people are fools to allow such a misguided administration to continue after May 2023.

In an election that involves seasoned political leaders like Tonye Cole of the APC, Magnus Abe of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Dawari George of Action Alliance (AA), Sobomabo Jackrich of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) and Beatrice Itubo of the Labour Party (LP), Dumo Lulu-Briggs of Accord Party, Gborogbosi Leesi of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Ibraye Tonte of African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Faye-Ofori Churchill of Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Wike is trying to impose a man with corruption cases hanging on his neck.

Also on the list of those in the race for the top job are Joseph Obele of the African Action Congress (AAC), Sam Agwor of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Leyii Kwanee of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Victor Fingesi of African Democratic Party (ADP) and Danagogo Wenike-Briggs of Young Progressives Party (YPP). It is embarrassing that with these calibers of Rivers people, Wike is courageous enough to ask electorates to vote Sim Fubara, who is currently on the run after being declared wanted for financial crimes involving Rivers monies which run into billions.

In few weeks time, Eze said

Rivers State will be saved from the embarrassment and laughing stock that Gov. Wike has turned her into and called on the Governor to understand that Amaechi is not on the ballot for 2023 general elections and should spare him further unnecessary and unwarranted attacks and concentrate on arranging a comprehensive handover note to Tonye Cole on May 28, so that the incoming APC government will know what and what are to be recovered from his looting administration that has sucked the state dry.

He commended the decision of the NUJ to hold the conference in Kano which he said is the commercial nerve centre of the North and some African countries,as well as the most peaceful state in Nigeria.

Ganduje said his administration had ensured excellent working relations between it and practicing Journalists in the state and the media in general, as well as freest environment for expression of opinion.

To strengthen the relationship,he said, the state government had constructed corner shops at the state NUJ Secretariat to help serve as a source of revenue for the union,”in addition to the standardization of its Conference Hall.”

Committee On Fuel Scarcity: CNPP Urges Buhari To First Purge NNPC of Corrupt, Incompetence Leadership

Conference Of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has commended the move by President Muhammadu Buhari to end fuel scarcity in country by setting up a 14-man Steering Committee to find lasting solutions to the problems surrounding the supply and distribution chain of petroleum products in the country.

In a statement signed by its Secretary General, Chief Willy Ezugwu, the CNPP observed that “as desirable as the step taken by President Muhammadu Buhari may be, the first step to salvage the oil sector is to cleanse the newly incorporated NNPC Limited of the inherited corrupt management team who are currently overseeing the company.”

Recall that the committee which was set up by President Muhammadu Buhari which would be chaired by himself and co-chaired by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva.

The CNPP, however, noted that “it is impossible to have the same people, who created the problem that manifests today as fuel scarcity, find solution to the problem which was created due to incompetence and intention to corruptly enrich a few.

“Today, NNPC has opened another channel for siphoning taxpayers’ money by venturing into road construction when the company has been unable to meet Nigeria’s OPEC oil production supply quota and has denied the country of the needed foreign exchange.

“The ripple effect of the inability of the current NNPC Limited’s management to earn foreign exchange for Nigeria is the prevailing forex scarcity, leading to continuous crash of the naira against the United States dollar.

“Therefore, if the Mallam Mele Kyari-led NNPC cannot get a single refinery in Nigeria working in nearly eight years, how can it solve the current problem of fuel scarcity?

“If President Muhammadu Buhari is seeking to end his tenure with enduring legacy in the oil industry in Nigeria, it’s about time he got rid of the current Mele Kyari-led NNPC Limited.

“Our position remains that President Buhari inaugurated and reinforced corruption the day he unveiled the new NNPC.

“The perennial fuel scarcity in the country is man-made through deliberate policies by the Mallam Mele Kyari-led NNPC management team.

“We are glad that the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies are part of the committee but the committee will produce little or no positive result if the current NNPC leadership remains in office”, the CNPP stated.

Town Union Leadership Crisis Tears Anambra Community Apart

…Government won’t recognize caretaker committee – Commissioner

…we’re tired of non-performance, crisis. It’s either Caretaker or new-election – community/stakeholders

By Chuks Eke

All is not well with the people of Umuona, a small neighbouring community to Isuofia, Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s home town in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State as it has been torn apart by a protracted town union leadership crisis.

The crisis which dated back to December, 2020 during the Covid-19 era, broke out as a result of alleged kangaroo election of the town union executive conducted by the Ministry of Local Government  and Chieftaincy Matters which saw the emergence of Chief Kenneth Okoli as the President- General of Umuona Progressive Union, UPU,

His emergence, though through a democratic process, was against the wishes of the community, the Traditional Ruler, Igwe Humphrey Ejesieme; former President- General, late Prof. Silas Akaneme and other stakeholders who had ab-initio opted for the suspension of the election in compliance with the then Governor Willie Obiano’s directives against Covid-19 pandemic.

Igwe Ejesieme and other stakeholders had during their year 2020 Annual General Assembly, AGA of UPU, which usually take place every December 28, advised that the town union election should be shelved as part of measures to curtail the covid-19 pandemic, but they claimed that some opposition group in the area and the representatives of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Matters conspired among themselves and allegedly elected Okoli and his co-executive members to pilot the affairs of the town union for the next three years spanning from December, 2020 to December, 2023.

Although, Igwe Ejesieme did not swear-in OKoli and his executive members as required by the town union constitution and again not considering that Okoli himself was not qualified to contest the election ab-initio because he did not belong to his village branch of UPU and was indebted to the union; another breach of the union constitution, the Monarch and other stakeholders allowed Okoli to pilot the affairs of the town union for the next three years as required by the constitution, under cat-and-mouse uneasy relationship.

But the crisis degenerated on December 28, 2022 during last year’s AGA held at Umuona Civic Centre when Igwe Ejesieme went to the venue to attend the General Assembly meeting as he usually did since his ten years on the throne.

When Igwe Ejesieme arrived the venue and proceeded to sit down, Okoli became enraged and in anger publicly disparaged the Igwe before the community assembly.

According to him, the Igwe ought to have informed him before his arrival, noting that the bell which his aid rang to announce the presence and arrival of the Igwe was not enough. He consequently, denied the Igwe his traditional role to break kola nut, pray for his community and pour libations for the good health and progress of the community.

The anger of the President General who queried why the Igwe and his cabinet members should distract the audience with the bell resulted to reactions from the Assembly and members of the community who travelled far and near to attend the General Meeting began to complain bitterly.

All objections raised by some participants at the Civic Centre, venue of the general meeting as to why the President General should disgrace their monarch proved abortive and were rejected as Okoli was said to have at a stage, parked the Union’s documents, stood up, walked out on the audience and angrily vacated his seat unceremoniously with his executive.

It would be recalled that the President General had in October 2022 cancelled the Umuona Progreive union’s meeting for the month.

After leaving the venue with his executive members in such an unceremonious manner, half way into the meeting, the General Assembly noted such a behaviour as against the provisions of the constitution of the town and resolved immediately to fill the vacuum with immediate effect by asking each village to put their heads together to present those to be elected as Caretaker Committee and some were consequently selected by their respective villages, presented and sworn-in as the incumbent eight-man Caretaker Committee of the town union led by Mr. Okechukwu Akaneme, a one-time President of Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, ONICCIMA.

Soon after their election and swearing-in, the Okoli-led executive wrote a petition to the state Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Matters, which prompted the Commissioner, Hon. Collins Nwabunwanne to quickly invite both parties including the Akaneme-led Caretaker Committee, the traditional ruler of Umuona, Igwe Ejesieme and the former Okoli-led executive to his office where he allegedly rained abuses on them (the Caretaker Committee) before  directing them to go back home and renounce their purported Caretaker Committee election and allow Mr. Okoli and his executive to complete their three year tenure which is remaining only one year tenure from now.

Attempt made by Akaneme and Igwe Ejesieme to convince Hon. Nwabunwanne that they followed due process in selecting the new Caretaker Committee as enshrined in their town union constitution which states that there should be no vacuum in the leadership of the town union at any point in time, since Okoli and his executives had voluntarily vacated office, hence the hurried selection of the Caretaker Committee, Nwabunwanne allegedly asked Akaneme to leave his office.

Upon asking him to leave his office, Nwabunwanne stood up and allegedly started pushing him physically out of his office. He equally involved his aides and staff who allegedly manhandled Akaneme, mangled his clothes and broke his Apple I-phone.

As if that was not enough, Nwabunwanne allegedly dragged Akaneme and Igwe Ejesieme to nearby ‘B’ Division of the Nigerian Police Force using security personnel in his office and four policemen, where they were held until they made statements and were allowed to go after about five hours of delay. He was alleged to have equally threatened to suspend or dethrone Igwe Ejesieme if he goes ahead to support Akaneme’s Caretaker Committee leadership.

But in what looked like a compliance to the Commissioner’s directive, Akaneme convened a general meeting penultimate weekend and informed them about the government position rejecting the Caretaker Committee.

In their swift reactions, some of the stakeholders in the area, including rejected the Commissioner’s directive that Akaneme and his fellow Committee members should renounce their position and vacate the office for the Okoli-led elected former executive to complete their remaining one year.

Rejecting the directive, the stakeholders, namely Fidelis Okanume, Personal Assistant, PA to Igwe Ejesieme; Ebuka Okafor, Youth Leader; Chinedu Maduka, Village Chairman; Marcelinus Akaneme and Jerome Umeh, the traditional Prime Minister of Umuona, insisted that it is either the state government allow Akaneme and his executive to to stay for one year and exhaust Okoli’s tenure or conduct a fresh election of the town union executives as according to them, they would not want Okoli to come back to office again for any reason whatsoever because his administration was characterized by crisis, autocratic rule and above all non-performance.

In his reaction, Akaneme told newsmen that he did not prepare himself for town union leadership but based on his unanimous selection to fill the vacant position that suddenly cropped up as an emergency, he accepted to take up the gauntlets.

He decried the physical attack and assault he received from the Hon. Commissioner noting that town union crisis could be better managed and resolved especially when the government position was not backed by any known laws.

When contacted, Mr. Okoli told newsmen that he would like to rely on whatever Commissioner Nwabunwanne would say as regards the matter as according to him, “I am aware that Akaneme has already signed an undertaking not to have a Caretaker Committee in the area, let alone parading himself as Chairman of a non-existent committee.”

He described the purported selection of the caretaker committee as a charade, adding that he ended the meeting abruptly with a formal closing prayer because of the failure of Igwe Ejesieme’s aides to inform the general assembly of Igwe’s arrival before he barged into the meeting venue.

Okoli said it was Igwe Ejesieme that ignited the crisis ab initio when he stripped him of his Ide chieftaincy title, alongside other prominent indigenes of the community, adding that a lot of litigations are abound in the area.

Igwe Ejesieme, on his part, declined to comment on the matter, saying that he would not like to join issues with the state government or the troublesome Okoli.

As at press time, efforts to reach the Commissioner on phone to comment on the issue proved abortive as he could not respond to the calls and SMS send to him.

Tension As Nasarawa Community Rejoice Over Killing Of Fulani Herdsmen By Nigerian Air Force

0

Following the killing of over fifty [50] Fulani herdsmen at the Ekye Development Area of Nasarawa State owing to an air strike by the Nigerian Air Force in the early morning hours of January 25, 2023, the members of the immediate surrounding communities have begun to react openly to the killings.

The joyous reaction was coming amidst differing reactions from the Fulani community and leaders of the Fulani community who have claimed that the killing herders were innocent victims, and not part of the militia that had been rampaging through the community. The Governor of Nasarawa State who had announced that the Nigeria Police Force [NPF] have opened a comprehensive investigation into the incident – also made conclusive statement that the killed young Fulani men were innocent.

Herders massacred in Nasarawa airstrike

But the members of the effected community disagree – indicating that the killed young Fulani men were responsible for the many gruesome acts in the communities. They revealed that the Nigerian Airforce had struck the marauding Fulani young men three times within the last nine months. These ones that were killed by airstrike were coming from the Benue State side where their cows had been seized by security agents owing to the enforcement of the anti-grazing laws in Benue State. Minutes after they returned with their cows, they were struck. He said they were operating in Benue State.

Interestingly, according to the information available to 247ureports.com obtained from members of the Al-waza community and Doma people in general, pointed to the numerous attacks on the indigenous community members by the Fulani “militia” who are also referred to as herdsmen. They indicate that the militia have wreaked havoc on the people and on the farmers repeatedly. “It’s no longer news. You journalists don’t consider these events as news anymore”, said one of the community leaders who explained that the militia have been killing and maiming persons and have repeatedly raped wives in the presence of their children and husbands – without action by the law enforcement agency. The worst hit areas are the Akpanaja and Rukubi border towns of Nasarawa/Benue towns.

One of the victims of the herdsmen attack, Joshua Agabi disclosed to 247ureports.com how he was attacked in his farm. According to him, “I had people shouting for help as I went there to separate them and my hand was chopped off by a Fulani herder”. Another victim from Kututure by name, Christian Ibrahim also explained his ordeal. He said he was passing by when he saw young Fulani boys grazing and destroying millet and guinea corn farm. He pleaded with them to stop the destruction of crops, “when the Fulani boys struck with matchete, they broke all the plastic buckets I carried.

Ibrahim Ashikeni, who is the Chairman of the Association of farmers, also detailed his experience with the herdsmen. He claimed he gruesomely manhandled by Fulani herders. He also expressed concerns on why, over the years, farmers were killed on daily basis and no stringent measures were taken to effect arrest of the perpetrators.  As a result, the farmers in these areas have begun to leave in droves to Taraba and Ofere.

The leaders of the community told our correspondent that the news of the airstrike was received with elation. “Our people have been crying for help for years.”

DSP Ramhan Nansel,  the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the development and casualty figure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lafia.

He said: “While they were loading some of the cows into vehicles on Tuesday night in Kwatiri village, a border community between Benue and Nasarawa, something like a drone or an aircraft hovered in the air and shelled them.”

He said that apart from the victims, livestock were also killed in the attack.

“MACBAN describes the action as not only condemnable but a war crime under

Both spoke in their different remarks during the presidential and governorship campaign flag-off rally that held Tuesday in Umuahia Township Stadium, the Abia State capital.

Amid large turn out of Party faithful, Tinubu and Uzodimma reasoned that the only thing that could hinder the APC from winning all the elections next month and in March is if the leaders work at cross purposes.

While Tinubu specifically invited former minister of Mines, Dr. Uche Ogah, who is in court challenging the governorship candidacy of Chief Ikechi Emenike to a meeting with him, Governor Uzodimma thanked the leadership of the APC in Abia in advance for their willingness to work as a team in the interest of the Party and the State.

Tinubu  told the the youths, ‘’your  frustrations are over, and there will be no more strikes in the universities,” even as assured that his administration will “give priority to Education.”

“The confidence and hope for tomorrow is here with me becoming the President of Nigeria come February 25, 2023.”

To all the aggrieved members of the Party,  especially those that contested different positions and lost, he told them to come back for them to talk it over.

While expressing his gratitude to the people for their patience and perseverance in waiting for a long time to be part of the rally, Tinubu advised them to go to the polls with their PVCs, vote for him and other APC candidates all the way.

He also appealed to the people of Abia State to vote for the APC governorship candidate, Chief Emenike, noting that “Emenike being your Governor will link your State to the National Political Grid, in addition to ensuring that Abia State becomes a tourism haven by collaborating with the Federal Government.”

Tinubu, again, thanked the South East Presidential Campaign Coordinator, Governor Uzodimma for “his doggedness and support in ensuring that the party moves forward in the South East.”

To the women supporters who came out in their numbers to stand by him, he assured them that their labours shall never be in vain if he emerges the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria next month.

Earlier, Governor  Uzodimma had used the occasion to thank Abia people and their leaders for “their unity of purpose and for working towards reconciliation of aggrieved members of the Party in the State.”

The Governor urged the people to ensure they vote APC in all the positions, assuring them that their labours will not be in vain.

In his welcome remarks,  the APC governorship candidate for Abia State, Chief  Emenike, thanked all who attended the rally and assured them that APC is one family in  the State.

He said: “Abia must be rescued first before it will be developed. There will be new Abia where the youths will get employment and empowerment.”

To the Abia pensioners believed to be owed many years of unpaid pensions, and civil servants who are not being paid their wages regularly, he promised that their sufferings will be over if he becomes governor.

The National Chairman represented by the  Deputy National Chairman, South, Chief Emma Enukwu urged the people of Abia not to make the mistakes of the past, but should ensure they vote APC in all the positions.

Other speakers – the Abia APC Chairman, the APC National Woman leader, Dr. Beta Edu, House Representatives member, Hon Nkiruka Onyejiocha – all promised Tinubu that the votes of the Abia people  will be for the APC.
