Unidentified assailants have killed Mrs. Jemimah Dutse, former Zonal Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Bauchi South, whose body was discovered with her throat slit inside her residence in Bauchi metropolis.
What Happened
According to Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer SP Nafi’u Habib, a 49-year-old man reported at the “E” Division on October 3, 2026, at about 2:07 p.m., that Dutse’s lifeless body had been found in a pool of blood inside her residence at Muazu New Layout, Yelwa, with her throat slit by yet-to-be-identified assailants. “Upon receipt of the report, detectives attached to ‘E’ Division promptly visited the scene, documented it, and evacuated the body to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, for medical examination and autopsy,” Habib said.
Police Response
Habib said the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed the immediate transfer of the case to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and thorough investigation aimed at unraveling the circumstances surrounding her death and bringing the perpetrators to justice. “The Command commiserates with the family, friends, and political associates of the deceased and assures the public that no stone will be left unturned to ensure justice is served. Further developments will be communicated as investigation progresses,” he said.
Civil Society Reaction
The Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement, Bauchi State Chapter, condemned the killing in a statement signed by its State Coordinator, Nazif Bashi. “A society where citizens — regardless of their political affiliations, gender, or status — cannot feel safe in their own homes is one on the brink of breakdown,” Bashi said, describing the attack as one not only against Dutse and her family but against the peace, security and democratic fabric of Bauchi State. The group called on the Bauchi State Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant security agencies to urgently investigate the killing, constitute a high-powered investigative panel, and strengthen local security measures, surveillance and intelligence gathering across Bauchi metropolis and neighbouring local government areas.
What’s Unconfirmed
As of this report, no motive for the attack has been established, and the identity of the assailant or assailants remains unknown. Some circulating reports have characterized the attack as the work of “gunmen,” though the Bauchi Police Command’s own statement describes only a slit throat and does not mention firearms; 247ureports.com is reporting the attack based on the police account, which does not specify the weapon used.
