ABUJA — A prominent political analyst and public intellectual, Professor Udenta Udenta, has predicted a major electoral defeat for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing his performance in office.

Speaking during a current affairs analysis session, Udenta argued that the severe economic challenges and rising insecurity sweeping across Nigeria will directly hurt the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the polls.

Reviewing the data from the previous election cycle, Udenta noted that Tinubu secured his presidential mandate with over eight million votes. However, he maintained that the current public dissatisfaction across the country makes a repeat performance impossible.

“In 2023, Bola Tinubu scored eight million votes,” Udenta stated. “With how woefully he has performed, I don’t expect him to score more than five million votes.”

In contrast, the academic projected a massive surge in support for the opposition leader and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who has since transitioned to the newly formed National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Udenta emphasized that the widespread frustration among the youth, combined with the worsening living conditions under the current administration, has expanded Obi’s political base. He predicted that Obi has the potential to easily clear 11 million votes in the next election if the opposition builds a solid coalition.

The bold projection has intensified ongoing debates within political circles, with opposition groups viewing Udenta’s analysis as an accurate reflection of the current national mood, while ruling party stalwarts reject the forecast, insisting that ongoing economic reforms will yield positive results before the 2027 ballot.
