KANO, Nigeria — Abdulaziz Umar Ganduje, the eldest son of former Kano State Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has returned to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after a brief three-month tenure with the opposition Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Party executive members formally received the younger Ganduje on Sunday at the APC Ward Office in Ganduje town, situated within Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, where he renewed his party registration and collected his membership card.
Failed Nomination Drive Prompts Realignment
According to reports published by Daily Post and The Guardian, Abdulaziz had previously defected to the NDC to pursue the party’s nomination ticket for the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
His earlier departure from the APC was viewed as a significant political development, aligning him temporarily with political networks associated with former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
However, local political observers note that his return to the APC was sealed after the opposition party endorsed Muktar Mustapha Balarabe for the federal constituency seat. Facing a closed window for nomination forms and limited legislative options, Abdulaziz opted to realign with the ruling party structure built by his father.
Kano APC Executives Welcome Return
Speaking during the reception ceremony at Dawano, the headquarters of Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, APC ward officials expressed satisfaction with his decision to return.
Party leaders noted that Abdulaziz had played foundational roles in building local grassroots structures for the APC across the constituency prior to his brief departure, reaffirming his full integration into local party operations.
The political consolidation comes as key parties across Kano State reorganize party rosters and reconcile internal grievances ahead of upcoming primary contests and general election cycles.
