The dust raised following the untimely death of over 120 uniformed and un-uniformed men and women of Nigeria’s security forces on May 7, 2013 en-route to Eggon community to arrest and/or kill the leader of the Ombatse prayer group, Lega Agu – may have not settled -this is according to information recently made available to 247ureports.com which suggests probable foul play on the part of the Nasarawa State political leadership, particularly the Governor of Nasarawa State, may have been responsible for the deaths for the Nigerian security team.

Competent sources employed that the government specialist hospital in Lafia reveal that following the violent crisis of May 7, 2013 at the Eggon community, that the corpses brought to the hospital had been identified and claimed by the family members and by the respective law enforcement units that lost their agents. One of the sources revealed further – that at the end of the exercise – that 30 more corpses in police uniforms remained unclaimed and/or abandoned by the supposed owners of the corpses.

The source who happens to be a ranking member of the health ministry in Lafia added that the police department had already collected their corpses – and so has the State Security Services [SSS]. Other security outfits that played a role in the May 7 attack have all claimed their corpses from the mortuary. “But there remains 30 more corpses that were brought here on that day – that the police or the SSS has yet to identify or claim” said the source who went to suspect that the corpse who were dressed in police uniforms may not be police officers.  “They don’t look like they were police officers or security men, they don’t even look Nigerian”, said the source.

Collaborating the suspicions of the health worker is the Eggon Community [ECDA] president, Mr. Manman who told 247ureports.com that prior to the attack of May 7, 2013, about 3weeks prior, the Eggon community had reached a substantive peace agreement with the Fulani nomads – who had supposedly attacked the people of Eggon in revenge for the death of some their cattle. It was understood that attacks which the Eggon community thought were coming from Fulani herdsmen were misconceived – this was made clear by the Fulanis who were living amongst the Eggon people – who had also suffered casualties in the supposed Fulani attacks.

A source within the leadership of the Ombatse prayer group who spoke to our correspondent managed to clear the dust on the suspicions surrounding the governor of the State. The source stated that the numerous attacks on the Eggon people were not coming from the Fulanis – rather they were coming from hired assassins who were gunning for the head of the spiritual leader of the prayer group, Lega Agu. He made it clear that the governor of Nasarawa State – who was once a financial member of the prayer group – wants the group swiped out of existence. The source maintained that it was through the prayers of the Ombatse group that the governor managed to scale the political odds to become the governor of the State in 2011.

Since Governor Al Makura took office in 2011 – and it was made clear to him by the Ombatse prayer group – that the gubernatorial exercise would preferably go to the people of Eggon – “we have lost 249lives, more than 2400 homes set ablaze in our 49 hamlets”, said the source who added that the damaged homes were documented and photographed.  A war, it seems, befell the community of Eggon from a faceless enemy with an unknown address.

Why is the Governor so particular about Ombatse”, asked a leader within the community of Eggon. “He knows we are not a militia group but he continues to call us a militia group. He was part of us and we prayed for him and in returned he helped us financially”, the source continued that “only Al Makura knows where the militias are and only him can produced them. We are a prayer group and not a militia group”. The source differentiated between the Ombatse militia group from the Ombatse prayer group – saying that he is aware of the prayer group – and not the militia group.

The source explained the remaining 30 corpses at the specialist hospital as belonging to “hired Mullahs” who the Governor had used in the past for veiled violent operations. He said that the “Hired Mullahs” were the ones launching the midnight attacks on the Eggon community – and not Fulanis as popularly believed in the wide media. “If they were not hired killers, why have the police of the SSS not identified the corpses dressed in police uniforms?” He continued to asked, “who sent them if they were not indeed police officers?

Why would the Governor send 120armed men/women to a community of population [men women and children] 330, to arrest their spiritual leader who is aged 80?”, the source queried while adding that the Eggon 49 hamlet are so sparsely populated that you hardly need such an occupying force to arrest the spiritual leader of Ombatse. “Our youths are less than 80 in number – and so how could a group of 80 youths attack and killed 120 well armed police officers, SSS agents and other hired mullahs?

It was understood the Eggon community pulled out of the commission of inquiry hurriedly put together by the Governor of Nasarawa State – for reasons bordering on imbalance of equity. One of the leaders of the Ombatse prayer group told 247ureports.com that “the commission was set up to kill us”. According to him, “the Ombatse group is not happy with the commission”.  The leadership of the group called on the Presidency to set up an impartial commission to investigate what occurred on May 7, 2013. “We have evidence that shows that Governor Al Makura’s hands are involved in the slaughter of 120armed officers and hired killers on May 7, 2013”.

Efforts to reach the police department through the Police Commissioner, Shehu Umar – and through the Police Public Relations Officer, Mike Ada failed – as both failed to respond to sms messages sent to the mobile phones – and to repeated phone calls.
