UMUAHIA, NIGERIA — The Abia State Police Command has officially unmasked the identity of the woman captured in a viral video aggressively attacking a helpless minor with a kitchen knife inside a residential apartment at the highbrow IBB Housing Estate in Umuahia.

In an official police press release signed and issued on Monday, July 6, 2026, the Command confirmed the arrest of Mrs. Nwoko Gift, a 35-year-old native of Ehime Mbano, Imo State, who resides at the estate.

The police also identified the young victim as her 12-year-old niece, Miss Ebo Chimamanda, who lives with her as a domestic ward. The suspect is now facing a severe, non-bailable charge of attempted murder.

Attacked Over Unwashed Laundry

According to detailed operational briefs released by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the blood-curdling incident took place on Sunday, July 5, 2026.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Mrs. Nwoko Gift flew into a violent rage and attempted to slaughter young Chimamanda simply because the 12-year-old girl allegedly failed to spread washed clothes on the laundry line before the suspect left for the local market.

The police report further exposed a horrifying history of hidden domestic terror, documenting that the suspect had repeatedly subjected the little girl to severe physical beatings and constant death threats long before the viral video clip blew the lid off the abuse.

Actionable Intelligence Sparks Rescue Operation

The minor was saved from potential death after operatives attached to the World Bank Divisional Police Headquarters, Umuahia, intercepted the viral social media footage. Leveraging actionable digital intelligence, the tactical team swiftly tracked down the exact residential coordinates inside the IBB Housing Estate.

The operatives stormed the apartment, successfully rescued the traumatized 12-year-old Chimamanda, disarmed the enraged housewife, and recovered the long kitchen knife used during the violent assault as a primary criminal exhibit.

“Investigation is ongoing, as the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), and the suspect will be charged for attempted murder upon conclusion of investigation,” DSP Chinaka stated, writing on behalf of the Abia State Commissioner of Police.

Command Demands Public Vigilance

Condemning the act in its entirety, the Abia State Police Command warned guardians and employers that no level of domestic provocation justifies weaponized violence against children or domestic helpers.

The law enforcement agency urged neighbors inside secluded estates to drop the culture of silence and actively blow the whistle on hidden domestic abuses before they degenerate into fatalities.

“The Command condemns such actions for whatever reasons and advises members of the public to desist from such act, as well as to report any such incidents to the nearest police station. Together we keep Abia safe. See something, say something,” the statement concluded.

Civil society networks and child rights advocates in the state capital have already praised the rapid, tech-driven response of the World Bank Division, promising to monitor the SCID prosecution closely to ensure that young Chimamanda gets complete legal justice.
