HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam — Authorities in Vietnam have arrested a 43-year-old Nigerian national, Izuchukwu Calistus Odionye, in connection with a major cross-border drug trafficking syndicate transporting narcotics from Laos into Vietnam.

According to reports published by VietnamPlus and Tuoi Tre News, law enforcement officers intercepted the consignment containing two kilograms of suspected crystal methamphetamine and two bricks of heroin.

Border Interception and Discovery

The interdiction began at the Lao Bao International Border Gate in Quang Tri Province. Customs officials inspecting road vehicles entering Vietnam from Laos flagged a suspicious package during routine X-ray scanning.

A physical search of the package revealed narcotics concealed inside electric water heaters and electronic components designed to evade security checks.

Arrest in Ho Chi Minh City

After tracking the shipment across several transit points over four days, law enforcement operatives arrested Odionye in Ho Chi Minh City as he stepped forward to take delivery of the parcel.

During initial questioning, Odionye reportedly admitted that he knew the consignment contained illicit narcotics and stated that he had been hired to collect the shipment in Ho Chi Minh City and transport it to Hanoi.
