ABUJA — In a scathing assessment of the current political and economic climate, prominent opposition figure Hon. Uche Onyeaguocha has labeled the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a “total failure.”

Onyeaguocha directly blamed the presidency for plunging the nation into unprecedented poverty, penury, and severe insecurity, while asserting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been completely compromised ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The public official leveled heavy institutional allegations against the current head of the electoral umpire, Professor Joash Amupitan, declaring that INEC has abandoned its constitutional neutrality to function openly as an administrative branch of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Predicts Total Defeat for the Presidency

Onyeaguocha stated that public dissatisfaction with the current administration’s policies is so widespread that the ruling party cannot survive an authentic ballot. He argued that even if the next electoral process achieves only a minor fraction of transparency, the presidency will face a decisive defeat at the polls.

“Everybody does realize that Tinubu is a failure, a total failure, that Tinubu Administration has put Nigeria into poverty, penury, and insecurity,” Onyeaguocha declared. “I believe that if this election is only 30% free and fair, Tinubu will lose the election. The truth is that INEC is a player with APC.”

The politician argued that the administration’s reliance on institutional manipulation is a direct consequence of its inability to secure a popular mandate through standard governance achievements.

Amupitan’s INEC Accused of Active Partisanship

A central pillar of Onyeaguocha’s grievance rests on the structural conduct of the electoral umpire under Professor Joash Amupitan. The opposition leader’s public revelation aligns with a widening consensus among opposition political parties, who argue that the current leadership of the commission functions to actively shield the ruling party’s interests.

By characterizing INEC as an active “player” alongside the APC rather than an independent referee, Onyeaguocha has amplified demands for sweeping electoral reforms.

The public indictment comes amidst reports that the international community and United States-based lobbying groups have begun reviewing petitions regarding the neutrality of the Nigerian electoral umpire, placing immense pressure on Amupitan’s leadership as opposition networks intensify their calls for his resignation.

As of the conclusion of this report, neither the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress nor the media department of INEC under Professor Joash Amupitan has released an official statement to counter Hon. Onyeaguocha’s heavy public criticisms.
