ABUJA — Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, has admitted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) faces a highly challenging battle to retain power in the 2027 presidential election.
Responding to a direct query from broadcast journalist Seun Okinbaloye regarding the combined electoral threat of Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, the ranking lawmaker cautioned his party against complacency. He warned that those surrounding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are failing to tell him the hard truth about the administration’s political vulnerabilities.
Ndume compared the upcoming 2027 contest to the intense physical battles seen in professional wrestling, stating bluntly that the APC will have to fight hard to survive the challenge from a mobilized opposition.
Fact-Shielding Aides Endangering the President
Senator Ndume expressed deep concern over the behavior of presidential aides and close political associates who refuse to present the reality of the country’s economic and security situation to the President. He argued that dismissing the strength of opposition figures like Obi, Atiku, and Makinde is a significant tactical error.
“I am not that worried about it, but at the same time I don’t take opponents for granted,” Ndume stated during the live television interview. “I have said this severally on TV, and that is the mistake most of us are making, especially those around Mr. President: having problems telling him the facts.”
The Borno South lawmaker emphasized that ignoring these internal and external political indicators will leave the ruling party flat-footed when the campaign cycle commences.

A Grueling Fight Awaiting the Ruling Party
Rather than projecting an easy victory for the current administration, Ndume predicted a bruising, competitive race that will test the structural limits of the APC’s national network.
“We are going to struggle it out together; it can be hard like the WWE; it’s going to be a tough fight,” Ndume warned, referencing the grueling nature of professional wrestling to describe the political friction ahead.
This candid admission from a high-profile APC insider aligns with recent confidential reports indicating that internal polling has caused anxiety within the presidency. With the opposition escalating pressure on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and building diplomatic coalitions abroad, Ndume’s public warning confirms that the path to a second term for the current administration will face significant resistance.
