ABUJA — The upper legislative chamber was thrown into a state of shock following explosive revelations by the Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, who alleged that the signatures of at least three lawmakers were forged or improperly inserted into the report that recommended the six-month suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Oshiomhole dropped the political bombshell during a plenary session while responding to comments by the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele. Bamidele had openly lamented the suspension of the Kogi Central lawmaker, describing the entire episode as one of the lowest points in the history of the 10th Senate.

Seizing the moment, Oshiomhole revealed that the investigative process behind the suspension was deeply flawed and tainted by administrative manipulation.

“Their Names Found Their Way There”

According to the former Edo State Governor, at least three members of the committee tasked with investigating the matter never appended their signatures to the final document but were shocked to discover their names listed as signatories.

“Three senators did not sign the suspension report but found their names on it,” Oshiomhole stated boldly, exposing a severe breach of legislative integrity and parliamentary protocols.

The revelation has raised immediate concerns about the authenticity of committee findings within the Red Chamber, with analysts questioning whether standard legislative processes are being bypassed to target independent-minded lawmakers.

The Low Point of the 10th Senate

The controversy stems from the highly publicized six-month suspension slapped on Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, a vocal opposition lawmaker from Kogi State, following a heated legislative dispute.

While the leadership of the Senate had sought to put the matter to rest, the open admission by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele regarding the unfairness of the action—coupled with Oshiomhole’s forgery allegations—has completely reopened the wounds.

Legal and political experts are already warning that if the signatures on an official Senate committee report were indeed falsified, it could render the entire suspension invalid and trigger an institutional crisis regarding the rule of law within the National Assembly.

Growing Call for Probe

With Oshiomhole blowing the whistle on the floor of the Senate, pressure is now mounting on the Senate leadership and the ethics committee to launch an immediate internal investigation into how the unauthorized signatures appeared on the disciplinary report.

As the 10th Senate fights to protect its image, the developing scandal threatens to further erode public confidence in the upper chamber’s disciplinary mechanisms.
