PORT HARCOURT, NIGERIA — Former Niger Delta militant leader Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo has launched a fierce verbal assault against the opposition alliance, declaring that a vote for the Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso ticket is “a vote to Hell”.
Dokubo, a vocal supporter of President Bola Tinubu, made the statements during a live broadcast, levelling religious accusations against the opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Allegations of Anti-Islamic Agenda
The core of Dokubo’s attack centered on claims regarding Peter Obi’s geopolitical alignments. Dokubo alleged that the former Anambra State Governor poses a direct threat to the Muslim population in Nigeria.
“Peter Obi is an enemy to Islam,” Dokubo stated, warning voters that supporting the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) platform would bring spiritual and societal ruin. He further claimed that Obi had previously attempted to invite foreign military interests to Nigeria to intimidate the local Muslim population.
Paid Agitation and Political Mandate
Dokubo’s rhetoric aligns with his established history of acting as an aggressive voice against any opposition movements threatening the current administration.
Throughout the 2023 electoral cycle and the current tenure, Dokubo has consistently operated as a fierce defender of President Tinubu’s interests, repeatedly targeting opposition figures. Critics have long labeled him a paid agitator for the ruling establishment, pointing out his pattern of using highly volatile statements to disrupt rival political camps.
He has previously labeled the “Obidient” movement a scam and a joke, and once generated intense public outrage by brandishing firearms on a social media livestream while issuing warnings to political opponents of the presidency.
Strategic Reaction to Opposition Growth
The timing of Dokubo’s outburst comes as the newly formed NDC alliance continues to gain momentum across the country. By combining Peter Obi’s Southern support with Kwankwaso’s vast Northern voter base, the NDC has emerged as a major threat to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Political observers note that Dokubo’s weaponization of religious rhetoric is a calculated attempt to break up the pan-Nigerian coalition backing the NDC ticket and protect the political survival of the Tinubu administration.
