KANO – Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has sparked a fresh debate within the opposition camp, declaring that he holds more political weight than Peter Obi.
Speaking as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) begins setting its roadmap for 2027, Kwankwaso dismissed suggestions that he should automatically take a back seat to the former Anambra governor.
“I am bigger than Peter Obi politically,” Kwankwaso stated. “I have more experience, I have served in more capacities, and my track record is there for all to see. We must first look at the party’s criteria for deciding a presidential candidate before anyone talks about who should be at the top of the ticket.”
The comment comes as both leaders—who have recently moved their political structures toward the ADC—face pressure from supporters to form a united front. While there have been reports of a potential “Obi-Kwankwaso” ticket, Kwankwaso’s latest remarks suggest that the battle for the top spot is far from settled.
He insisted that the ADC must prioritize “merit, national reach, and administrative experience” when screening potential candidates.
“Let’s see the criteria first,” he added. “The North and the South must come together, but it has to be on the basis of who can actually deliver and lead this country out of its current mess.”
Obi’s camp has yet to issue a formal response to the “bigger than me” claim, but insiders say the former Labour Party candidate remains focused on a coalition that can challenge the ruling APC.
