UMUAHIA, NIGERIA – Authorities in Abia State have apprehended a serving soldier of the Nigerian Army in connection with a high-profile armed robbery involving the theft of ₦4.9 million. The suspect, identified as Chukwu Ebuka, was taken into custody following an investigation into a violent operation that has sparked significant public outcry across the country.
In a video currently circulating on social media, the suspect is seen admitting to his involvement in the crime, stating, “My action was wrong,” while pleading with authorities for leniency. During the arrest, security agents recovered several incriminating items allegedly used during the robbery, including axes and handcuffs.
The Nigerian Army has historically maintained a zero-tolerance policy toward such misconduct, and military sources indicate that the suspect will likely face a court-martial in addition to civil prosecution. The incident has intensified calls from Nigerians for a more rigorous internal screening process within the armed forces to weed out elements involved in criminal activities.
As of Thursday, March 19, 2026, the suspect remains in custody while security agencies conduct further investigations to identify potential accomplices. The military command is expected to issue a formal statement regarding the soldier’s service status and the disciplinary actions to be taken in the coming days.
