ORE, Nigeria — In a violent highway ambush on Monday, suspected kidnappers attacked an East-bound GUO Transport bus along the Ore-Benin Expressway.
The assailants targeted the commercial vehicle while it was in transit, shooting the driver dead to force the bus to a halt. With the vehicle immobilized, the gunmen gained access and marched the passengers into the surrounding forest.
The attack has reignited fears among commuters and transport unions over the safety of the nation’s highways. This specific route has seen a surge in kidnappings and armed robberies, with critics pointing to a lack of consistent security presence.
The police have yet to confirm the exact number of passengers abducted, but search and rescue operations are reportedly underway in the surrounding bush. This latest incident follows a series of similar raids that have turned Nigeria’s major interstate roads into high-risk zones for travelers.
