Kano Emirate: Anti-Graft Agency Invites Emir’s Uncles, Brother Over Financial Misconduct

This is not the best of times for the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi 11  as  yet another scandal of finanancial misconduct has rocked his Emirate following the invitation of his two uncles and brother by the Kano Anti-Graft agency to explain their roles and that of the Emirate over alleged financial misconduct.

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission also invited the accountant of the Emirate to appear before it on Thursday over an allegation of financial impropriety.

Those invited were alleged to, either have knowledge of the allegation against the Emirate Council, or have allegedly participated in the alleged act directed at the Royal Council.

Those invited, as indicated above, are his two uncles, Isa Sanusi Bayero and Mannir Sanusi Bayero, who is Chief of Staff of the Emirate Council.

His brother, Mujitaba, who is the Falaki of Kano and the Accountant of the Council, Muhammad Sani Kwaru were also invited to give explanations to the Kano Anti-Graft agency.

A letter sent to all the invitees stated – “the allegation violates Section 26 of the Commission’s Enabling Law, in the management of Kano State Emirate Council funds. Covering the period of 2013 to 2017.”

It could be recalled that similar allegations of financial misappropriation has been leveled against Kano Emirate Council under Emir Sanusi’s watch.

A top brass from the Emirate Council expressed worry over the whole  scandal, saying that, “this is not fsir to the image of yhe reverred Emirate Cojncil. If this allegation of financial impropriety turns out to be true, after the application of the Commission’s enabling law followed by other legal battle, the Kano Emir could be a proverbial golden fish.”
