The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation Ohanaeze Ndigbo has said that if President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) should make a broadcast today and begin to change his approach to leadership things would start working well for the country.

Ohanaeze’s spokesman, Chief Alex Ogbonnia, who spoke with one of our correspondents on telephone on the Presidency’s accusation that past political leaders and religious leaders were working to remove the President through unconstitutional means, distances Ohanaeze Ndigbo from it.

Ogbonnia, however noted that the President himself knows that all was not well in the country, adding “if his state, Katsina the rate of banditry alone, where he come from it should remind him that the country is not working well and that many things are not going well in the country.”

He stated, “the rate of killings on a daily basis; look at the front page of Nigerian dailies everyday you will see number of deaths as a result of one form of violence or the other.

“He knows that things are not working well. There is no other way for one to believe that President is not aware that things are not working well.

“However, Ohanaeze distances itself from the change of government by way of coup. Ohanaeze is not in support of coup d’etat, it backpedaling and sets the hand of clock backward.

“Ohanaeze is not interested in anything Coup. Ohanaeze is interested that the president should listen to us and address the nation. President should reorder his steps. He should root his governance in justice because everything has been injustice especially to the Igbo.

“As far as Ohanaeze is concerned, President Buhari has not been just to us, has not been fair to us and that help aggravating all sorts of agitations in the South East.

He added, “for example, younger ones accuse us that we are sell-out. Look at what happened in change of leadership of the security architecture of the country. Ohanaeze wrote the President commending him of change the leadership and reminding him that South East is marginalized in the security architecture of the country.

“Surprisingly, when the Inspector General of Police, was appointed he also sidelined the South East. Look at the security architecture no South East is there. It is injustice. And in spite of that look at the security is the country; if he has used his own people alone and things are working well, we won’t be bothering but look at what is happening. So we are saying that injustice is breeding all these things – crisis, agitations and so on.

“So, what we are saying is that he should listen to us and reorder his steps. That if he make a broadcast today and begin to change his approach to leadership things will start working well.”
