Information available to 247ureports.com indicates that the Anambra Senatorial race for the central senatorial district may have gone from bad to worst as the rerun election date draws nearer. This is following the recent slew of desperate mechanization by some involved politicians in the contest for the rerun election to gain an edge in the race.

As gathered, the Department of Security Services [DSS], on the late morning of March 3, 2016 swooped into the country home of the former national chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance [APGA] and the APGA candidate for the said rerun election, Chief Victor Umeh – and arrested him.

The agents of the DSS, according to the wife of Chief Victor Umeh came to the house at about 11am and demanded that he follow them to their office at Amawbia, near the Anambra government lounge. The wife indicated that the former APGA obliged and followed the armed DSS agents who had arrived at the home in several pickup trucks – wearing masks covering their faces.

As the former APGA chairman reached the DSS office in Amawbia, he was informed that the DSS was acting based upon a petition against him which accused him of having an unholy alliance with the Biafra agitation group – Indigenous People of Biafra [IPOB]. The details of the petition stated that the petitioner alleges that Chief Victor Umeh was one of the major financiers of their activities.

Minutes after he arrived the station, he was bundles into another pickup van and re-routed to Abuja. The reason for his being transferred to Abuja remained unknown.

The authors of the petition were not made public but many within the immediate theater of operation believe the timing of the arrest rings of political overtones. They believe for the petition to have originated from the many political opponents of Chief Victor Umeh who may have wanted him out of the way – against the senatorial elections. 247ureports.com has no available evidence indicating who the authors were.

However, when the police in Anambra state was contacted on the telephone, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ali Okechukwu said he was not aware of Umeh’s arrest.

Stay tuned.
