Tragedy struck at the sleepy Umuokwe Umuhu Ezechi community in Bende Local Government Area of Abia state when a man in his early 30s, Ahamefula Mba was beheaded as he was fetching water at the community stream.

The late Mba who is a relation of the former commissioner of Lands in the state, Chief Paul Mba, was said to have met his untimely demise around 6am as he bent down to scoop water from the stream but one Chinedu Okorie who was lurking behind, cut off his neck with a sharp machete.

Done with the evil act, Okorie was said to have fled the community. A source in the community said children who saw Okorie and Mba’s lifeless body raised alarm shouting on top of their voices which attracted residents of the area.

The source told 247ureports.com that Okorie has been behaving strangely a month to the incident. According to him, “He (Okorie) bought a machete and continued sharpening it daily until we retrieved it from him. Before we knew it, he bought another machete which he sharpened for seven days before he used it to cut off Mba’s neck.”

As Okorie was nowhere to be found, youths of the community later went on rampage and destroyed a building belonging to his family.
