UYO, NIGERIA — Political movement Kwankwasiyya Amana X (KAX) has issued a press statement strongly condemning the arrest and detention of coordinators and members belonging to the OK Movement and the Obidient Movement in Akwa Ibom State during a joint “Obi–Kwankwaso Two Million-Man March”.
In an official statement released on October 2, 2026, and signed by KAX Management, the organization expressed deep concern over the circumstances surrounding the police action, describing the crackdown as a violation of fundamental democratic freedoms.
Call For Immediate Release and Rule of Law
The group emphasized that peaceful political participation, freedom of expression, assembly, and association remain fundamental pillars of Nigeria’s constitutional democracy that must be respected by security agencies.
“Peaceful political participation, freedom of expression, assembly and association are essential elements of democratic practice and citizens exercising these rights should be treated in accordance with the law,” the organization stated.
Demand was made for the immediate and unconditional release of all detained coordinators and members, alongside an appeal to law enforcement authorities to uphold due process.
Movement Reaffirms Right To Assembly
Highlighting the nature of the political gathering, KAX maintained that the Obi–Kwankwaso Two Million-Man March represented legitimate civil engagement and public participation that ought to proceed without fear, intimidation, or unnecessary obstruction.
Reaffirming its commitment to peaceful democratic processes, the movement called on relevant security heads and state authorities to uphold the rule of law and guarantee the protection of all citizens regardless of political affiliation.
