KARTYO-LOBI, BENUE STATE — The people of Ushongo Local Government Area have formally declared their support for the re-election of Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial elections, calling for a political consolidation of his ongoing administration.
The endorsement was made on Sunday during a Thanksgiving service and reception organized in honor of Rev. Fr. Prof. Gabriel Ngbea, the newly appointed Member representing Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau states at the Federal Civil Service Commission, held in Kartyo-Lobi.
Addressing the gathering, community leaders and political stakeholders stated that addressing systemic developmental challenges—including infrastructural decay, deficit of basic amenities, unemployment, and insecurity—requires sustained leadership beyond a single four-year term.
Reacting to the declaration, Governor Alia thanked the people of Ushongo for their support and reiterated his commitment to inclusive governance.
“The principle behind my reformation project is that every Benue person should be invited to the table,” Governor Alia said. “One must not be from a wealthy, influential, or powerful family to get a chance to contribute to the development of the state. I am deliberate about this and I shall continue.”
The Governor also cautioned political supporters to avoid divisive rhetoric, urging them to conduct peaceful and issue-based engagements as political activities gain momentum.
Speaking on behalf of the constituency, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, noted that Ushongo LGA has historically demonstrated strong support for the administration, citing the 2023 elections where the area delivered over 31,000 votes to the Governor compared to the runner-up’s 8,000 votes.
Stakeholders at the event expressed optimism that maintaining political continuity in 2027 will enable the state government to complete key administrative and structural reforms currently underway.
