A married woman has been captured in a viral video being slapped, brutalized and rebuked by some persons, including police operatives armed with AK-47 rifles, after she was allegedly caught making love with a pastor on a bed inside his office.

The incident, which reportedly involved a Bethany church pastor, happened in Oju Local Government Area of Benue State during working hours, with the woman seen in the video being confronted by the arrestors inside the room.

A man heard speaking in the background of the video claimed that the woman was still naked on the bed when they stormed the room, adding that she immediately dressed up upon seeing them.

Although the woman, in her response and reactions in the video, denied the allegations and also denied being naked or doing anything with the said pastor. She said she was only there to charge her phone. However, the people kept claiming and imposing it on her that she was having an affair with the pastor and that she was naked when they arrived.

The video, however, did not show the pastor or his face, nor did it establish whether he was present in the room when the security personnel arrived or had already left after the alleged encounter.

The arrestors and the person recording the video also did not explain whether the alleged lovers were caught in the act or whether the woman was found alone after they might have finished whatever ministration that had reportedly taken place between them.

While the woman was seen being slapped and subjected to physical assault by the persons who stormed the room, the whereabouts of the pastor allegedly involved in the incident remained unclear, with no footage showing him being apprehended or subjected to similar treatment.

The incident and the viral video have sparked off a chain of reactions and counter-reactions on social media, with many questioning why only the woman was shown being brutalized while the self-acclaimed pastor, who was allegedly involved in the act with her, was neither seen nor identified in the viral video.

Some netizens who reacted to the incident likened the treatment of the woman to gender marginalisation and the double standards against women in a society where women are often subjected to harsher condemnation over sexual matters, while men involved in similar situations are treated differently.

They questioned why the woman should be the only person exposed to public humiliation and physical assault when the allegation involved two people, further insisting that the same standard of accountability should apply to both parties.

Others, however, in their own reactions, shared a different line of arguments, with some claiming that men are naturally polygamous and have rights to marry multiple wives or even engage in relationships with other women outside wedlock.

The divergent voices have however continued to generate more reactions and arguments over gender expectations, marital faithfulness and the apparent disparity in how men and women are treated when allegations of sexual misconduct arise.

Meanwhile, the physical assault captured in the video has also left people questioning why the police operatives should immediately resort to violence against the woman regardless of the circumstances that led to her apprehension, without first conducting necessary investigations and charging her to court if the need be.

As of the time of this publication, the whereabouts of the woman and the pastor were yet to be publicly made known.
