The Tinubu-Dikko Campaign Council has suffered another major security setback ahead of the 2027 elections following a violent attack on its convoy by angry youths in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State on Saturday.
During the ambush, several campaign vehicles were severely smashed while others were set ablaze by the rioting youths. Numerous people within the campaign train sustained varying degrees of injuries as the violence threw the community into panic.
String of Targeted Assaults
Saturday’s attack marks the second major disruption targeting the ruling party’s campaign train within a single week. Barely four days prior, the Tinubu-Dikko campaign was violently disrupted during its official flag-off rally in Funtua. Similar hostile actions and road ambushes against campaign vehicles were also reported in Malumfashi town and several vulnerable communities within the Kankara Local Government Area.
Inexplicable Links to Government Top Shots
A tense political undercurrent has emerged following the geographic pattern of the attacks. Intriguingly, the three local government areas where the violence has erupted are the direct home bases of key members of the Katsina State Government’s Executive Council:
- Faskari LGA: Home to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Garba, where Saturday’s arson occurred.
- Malumfashi LGA: Home to the Governor’s Chief of Staff, Abdulkadir Nasir.
- Kankara LGA: Home to the Deputy Governor of Katsina State, Faruk Jobe.
The recurring hostility in these specific strongholds has raised serious questions among political observers regarding internal party cohesion and local security control.
Campaign Council Demands Full Investigation
Reacting swiftly to the dangerous escalation, the Tinubu-Dikko Campaign Council, through its Media Directorate, issued a strong statement calling on the Nigeria Police Force and relevant security agencies to launch an immediate investigation. The council demanded that security forces establish the true circumstances surrounding the coordinated ambushes and bring all perpetrators to justice.
In a bid to douse the rising political flames in the state, the Campaign Council also issued an urgent appeal to all political parties, actors, and their supporters to exercise maximum restraint. The directorate urged stakeholders to refrain from deploying inflammatory rhetoric or circulating unverified claims that could further compromise the peace and security of Katsina State ahead of the 2027 polls.
