Human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore, has alleged that a mobile phone stolen from his team during a violent assault in Ado-Ekiti has been digitally tracked directly to the Ekiti State Governor’s Lodge.
Sowore disclosed the digital tracking breakthrough on Sunday following a brutal attack on Friday, October 30, 2026, at the Tawakalitu Restaurant in the Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti. He has demanded that the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) immediately make public the seized CCTV footage from the restaurant.

Tracking the Evidence
According to Sowore, electronic tracking of the stolen devices pinpointed their active locations within the state capital. One of the devices was reportedly traced directly to the high-security Governor’s Lodge area, while another device was mapped to a location opposite Fajuyi Park in Ado-Ekiti.
“One of the phones stolen from a member of our team during Friday’s brutal attack in Ado-Ekiti has now been traced to the Governor’s Lodge in Ekiti State,” Sowore stated. “The @PoliceNG and @OfficialDSSNG must immediately release the CCTV footage from Tawakalitu Restaurant to the public. You cannot bury the evidence.”
Ambush at Tawakalitu Restaurant
The incident occurred shortly after Sowore completed a live radio interview at MIDAS FM 90.5 in Ado-Ekiti. While eating at the local eatery, a group of armed men reportedly stormed the premises, opening fire, vandalizing vehicles, and physically brutalizing the political delegation. Sowore and his aides sustained multiple physical injuries before being treated and discharged from a local medical facility.
The African Action Congress (AAC) strongly condemned the assault, characterizing it as a coordinated “attempted assassination” rather than a random street fight. Activists accompanying the team also claimed that hours before the attack, the Governor’s Chief Security Officer had contacted them to issue warning statements regarding Sowore’s safety.
Contradicting Official Accounts
The tracking allegations add immense pressure to the Ekiti State Police Command, which has faced criticism from the AAC for allegedly downplaying the event. While police initially classified the incident as a mere “altercation” or disagreement involving Sowore and some individuals, Sowore firmly rejected that description, maintaining that the onslaught was an orchestrated attack by government-sponsored thugs backed by security operatives.
Although the Ekiti State Police announced that Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operatives had raided a hideout in the Atikankan area and arrested 11 suspects, the tracking of the stolen phones directly to institutional locations raises serious, unresolved questions about whether the attackers operated under official state sponsorship.
